'Even though I am standing still I know I am am falling. I am plummeting towards the ground at a speed I don't dare think about. As gravity continues to pull me my hair blows into my face-blinding me by love. When I reach as far as I can go I just lie on the ground. I can see pieces of my heart shattered around me but can hear it pumping against my ribs at the same time.

Darkness shadows my surroundings as well as my thoughts . As I look up I can see a dim light far above where I lie showing that maybe there is some way I can escape. My hand reaches up to my chest and a shiver tiptoes down my spine as I touch a cold, hard, padlock. Like me heart has been torn out and replaced by this lifeless piece of metal. It is locked and I hate but love the way it feels just below my collarbone.

My eyes look up and I take a quick breath as I see a small key dangling on a thin string. I reach up to grasp it but it is pulled higher, toying with me like you would with an animal.

I watch the key to my heart disappear above me, never to be found again. Only it's owner can use it against me. I am lost. Forever. A casualty of love, a prisoner of its evil powers. Whatever happens, love will always conquer all'

"Oi watch where you're going" A large boy with thick, messy black hair collides his shoulder with mine and my book falls to the floor.

I curse under my breath, retrieving it and holding it tightly in my arms.

The bell has rung it's final ring of the term and huge waves of people have flooded into the corridor. I feel like I am being tossed back and forth, almost drowning as I finally reach the door.

Keeping my head down, I avoid making eye contact with a group of football playing gorillas from the year above who lay sprawled on a bench in their matching varsity jackets.

The snow crunches under my feet and I can see my breath in the air.

In one swift movement my sisters car door is open and I am sat on the front seat. Small icicles hang from the wing mirror. A single droplet runs down one of them and falls to the ground.

My numb fingers stroke the stem of my book before sliding it into my bag. My sisters keys click and the engine begins to grumble and moan, much resembling my mood.

"How was school?"

"Shit" I mumble and I can hear her sigh as we drive down the road. Her slow driving is bugging me already-like I somehow long for the speed. "Drive faster" I urge, reaching over and turning on the radio, filling the space around us with slow music which attempts to calm my irritant and exhausted mood.

"It's snowing Diana" Beth snaps, "unless you want to drive?" I stay silent. "Listen, I know your annoyed with this-"

"Annoyed?" I half laugh at her understatement, "Mum and Dad are sending me to some youth camp for the Christmas holiday whilst my friends are on fabulous trips!" I raise my voice slightly to empathise my words.

"D, you know how much this business means to them and if they have to travel a bit to help it reach it's full potential then you have to let them" her voice is softer and more sympathetic then before.

"It's ok for you. You have your amazing boyfriend to spend Christmas with!" I wave my hands around like a mad woman as Beth pulls up onto our gravel drive.

"Diana there is nothing you or I can do. You know what? Maybe it will be good for you. You can make some new friends" she tells me, locking the car and re-adjusting her handbag strap before unlocking the front door. "There might even be some boys" I hear her say as I fumble through my bag, pulling out the book I have become recently addicted to.

Ignoring her, I find the page I was on and hurry upstairs to get lost in my own bubble of literature again.
