Prologue

Fire. Crushed metal. Screams. Excruciating pain.

The words hit him slowly, one at a time. The events happening around him are blurring. He doesn't know what's going on.

Instead, somehow, he finds the strength to push himself out of his seat. He crawls on all fours, feeling the heat of the crackling fire in a proximity that's more than uncomfortable. But he pushes on, against the pain and the heat and the noise and the confusion.

Amidst gasps and shouts, he crawls out.

Cue the perspective switch

From the massive pile of burning flames and crushed up headlights and car, a scratched up, battered boy crawled his way out. He looked exhausted and in confusion as a team of rescuers hurried forward and helped him out and onto a stretcher.

Switch again

He only feels the soft white pillow on his head and the concerned hands of the paramedics when he enters an ambulance and disappears into a pit of blackness...
