Chapter Twenty Seven - He Stays the Night
I sprawled myself out on my bed and prepared myself to cry but no tears formulated. Come on Alex, your parents could potentially have a divorce, cry you heartless person, I thought but still nothing. It was three minutes ago when dad dropped the bombshell on us, I asked Brooks to leave which obediently he did and I promised to explain later. But why can't I cry now.
Nothing was really wrong with my parents, my mum as a right to be as stubborn as she is but she needs to see how helpful dad is now and how much he has changed for the better. Maybe if I can just get through to her then dad doesn't have to suffer so much. I reached over to my phone where I smiled at the sight at Brooks text.
Brooks: Hope everything is alright. Call me if you need me xo.
My heart fluttered, he was concerned. Mentally noting that I will call him straight after this I dialed my mums number where I waited two rings until she answer.
"Alex." She said with a sigh of relief. My breath cut out and I was at a loss of words. She sounded sad yet she disguised it.
"I miss you." I croaked and truly I did. Although I barely mention it, mum effects my life so much and seeing her just gone hurts.
"I miss you too baby girl." She admitted, oh so now I cry.
"I'm sorry I didn't say good bye." She stammered as my bottom lip quivered.
I blinked away my tears and swallowed. "Are you alright? How have you been?" I asked carefully.
"Your nonna is treating me well, she wants to see you more and she wants to meet Luke. You know you haven't introduced him to me as your boyfriend yet Alex."
You haven't been around.
"Are you busy tonight?" I asked, knitting my eyebrows together.
"No, why?" She responded.
"Well dad's going to a conference 'til late so why don't you bring Nonno and Nonna over, I'll invite Luke and we can have dinner together at 6:30, as a family, Tara included." I explained and I could just imagine my mum nodding as I spoke.
"That will be great hunny," I heard her say through the receiver, "I'll get Nonna to make a lasagna." Score! Saves my fail attempt at cooking, I was just gonna go for the latter and order Chinese food.
"Cool." I said.
"Well, I'll see you then sweetie. Ciao." She said, cutting the phone call to an end.
"Bye." Once I heard the dead line I hung up before sending Brooks a message which made me very nervous so his answer.
Me: Want to meet my Nonna?
My fingers tapped against my locked screen as I waited for it to light up and vibrate. Moments later the phone was shaking in my hands and it was ringing. Great, now he can hear and depict my nervousness.
"H-Hey." I answered a little bit shaky.
"Hi Al." He sounded calm and collected which I admired.
"So ugh," I laughed nervously, "want to meet and have dinner with the women who raised me?" I asked, biting down on my bottom lip.
"Of course." His response surprised me and I smiled.
"Really?" I asked, my voice high pitched and squeaky which made him chuckle.
"Really." He repeated, I could just imagine him laying on his bed, looking up at the ceiling as we spoke.
"So what time should I be ready to impress?" He inquired and I chuckled.
