Erol's POV:I thought of choosing water as my main element. Though I know that water focuses more on defense and support areas, which I have learned from class, I have seen some good offensive skills from watching Shere Everhart last time, when I saw her dueling with other students on the field.No, I won't ask her to teach me. I'll just ask one of my teachers to teach me the basics of it or even learn it myself now that I have this weird system in my head.I think the window waited like forever for my decision (if you know what I mean) so I chose what I thought is the best for me now – Water affinity.

The same time as the window appeared, I realized that I have to go to school and that I was going to be late if I kept staring in the empty air. I brushed the window away and hastily went to take a quick shower. I was still on my yesterday's uniform and it was so dirty and quite worn out that I can smell myself stinking. Though I am still confused as to how did I get home last night, I still can't do anything about it if I can't remember a thing, can I?I went to the kitchen to check for mom but she wasn't around. I guess she left early for work and just prepared me a sandwich and milk for breakfast. Mom really is sweet. She didn't forget about me even if she is too busy with her work.I quickly gulped down the milk and munched the sandwich before I leave. I grabbed my hover board, seeing that it has some obvious scratches here and there, I checked it further to see if there is some serious damage. Luckily, I found none.I infused as much as energy as I could into the board hoping to increase my overall speed. I can't afford to be late at my first subject because I don't want to be reprimanded again. Surprisingly, my speed increased a considerable amount compared to my usual speed. Instead of 15 minutes of hovering, my travel time reduced to 11 minutes.When I reached the school gate, there are few other students who were rushing like I do. I quickly swiped my identification card and deposited my board to the deposit machine then headed straight to class next floor.I was a minute late but luckily the teacher was not on the room yet. My classmates were chattering in their seats when I entered, I was like invisible to their eyes, and I like that. I went to my seat at the back, nearest to the window. I like it here because I can see the sky and I can directly smell the fresh air.I scanned the room to where Cedrick's seat is but to my surprise, the bully was not present today. I have no recollection as to what happened last night and how did I get home, so I wondered why he wasn't around today....Professor Keil came into class, giving in a somewhat weird atmosphere around him. His students noticed this and thought he was acting different today. He was carrying an awkwardly large bag, more like a sports bag hanging on his shoulders. The class fell silent when he started talking."Good Morning Initiates! I have an important announcement for all you.", he greeted while scanning the whole class. "Five months from now, you will all be required to take the test to become a full pledged Elementalist!"The students started chattering in their seats. Some have obvious excitement written on their faces and some were just completely silent, like Erol.All of the freshmen students have heard of this test from their upperclassmen. They said that every year, a grand testing ceremony will take place in the school's testing grounds to assess all students to determine their ranks as an Elementalist. Those who took the test in the last testing ceremony will have their chance to rank up. Everyone is thrilled to determine if their hard work will pay out or not.Ranks are divided into different categories, mainly:InitiateNovice ElementalistF, E, D, C, B, A, AA, AAA, S, SS, SSS-Rank ElementalistTo rank up is not that simple and doesn't just depends on the raw power and energy one can generate. This needs proper testing and the Elementalist should meet the specific level of skills required for them to rank up.Ranks are titles that determine your position in the school and in the society. As an Elementalist ranks up, there will be corresponding equal benefits. Anyone below his/her rank will not dare to oppose them. This means that the higher your rank is, the higher you place on the society's status pyramid.Erol knows this. As he was always on the web when he is free, most of the important and trending news are not new to him. He also knows that this testing ceremony isn't just for show."So you have the remaining months to practice and hone your skills to at least earn the Novice Rank!", Professor Keil emphasized. "Now, to our next agenda... I have something for all of you."Professor Keil took an object out of his large bag. A small, metallic bracelet came into view. The silvery hue on it caught Erol's eyes. It was a Mana Enhancement Device or commonly known as MED. A tool that lets the user direct his mana into it for focus and better mana control. It acts as a conductor to level the flow of energy and manipulate it according to the user's wish.It's a common theory that if the mana we produce should be projected into a one focal point or area, which is now the MED, where effectiveness and control of spells will be greatly boosted. These MED's can also be calibrated and customized for the user's compatibility and liking.Other than the bracelet, Professor Keil also brought out a ring and an earring MED which made the class noisy. Normally, these devices are only offered to students in their second year or if they met certain requirements. Having these MEDs available to lower years made the students jump and enthusiasm."Quiet down, will you??", Professor Keil let out an annoyed sigh which made the whole class fell silent for a moment."Okay. I have here in the table are different types of MEDs or what we call Mana Enhancement Device. The basic use of these tools is to let you guide your mana into these items. It will aid you to better your focus and control and at the same time it will amplify the effectiveness of your spells. But you must remember that you only need this as a focus medium. In the future, you are not required to use such items as you will learn how to focus and control the energies around you without any help from them.Now to explain further its uses...", Professor Keil took both the ring and earring. "These two items are obviously small which means it can only store a small amount of mana inside it. Its main purpose is for quick spells that doesn't need large mana output. We also call it quick cast medium which is usually used by mid-range and melee type elementalists. These items can also store one weapon of your choice.The bracelet on the other hand, can hold triple the amount of mana the ring and earrings can. This item is used for spells that require a little bit more mana. Though they fall a bit behind in casting time, they can at least outclass both the ring and earring in power. Others call it power medium which is usually used by long range and mid-range type elementalists. The bracelet can also store two similar or different types of weapon.Now that you know its basic uses, you can now choose one of the three items. Starting from the right row, please in an orderly fashion, choose only one according to your needs."One by one, the students started to form a small line in front. Others were still on their seats thinking what they should pick while considering their skills."Erol, what do you think?"Erol was startled by the question. It came from his seatmate Selene Caite, one of the smartest girls in class, crowned by white silvery hair that goes thru her back and eyes shaded with smooth red hue. Anyone would think that she is attractive and cute, but Erol wondered why would someone like her talk to a bottom feeder like him. He always thought that he was invisible to his classmates but now, every guy in the class was staring at him with disdain."M-Maybe I would take the ring...", Erol stuttered for a moment as he tried to ignore the stares from his classmates and the attention Selene is giving him."Hm. Why not the bracelet? I think it is quite more useful compared to the other two.", she asked while looking at Erol curiously."Y-You see I am not really good at controlling mana.""Pft~!", Selene let out a soft chuckle. "Do you think you're the only one?"Naturally, Erol knows this but he can't help being embarrassed when Selene let out a somewhat playful laugh. But before he could respond, it was his turn to pick.Erol hesitated at first because of what Selene said. He realized it is bad to limit himself from the possibilities. There is still a lot of time for him to improve before the testing day so he decided to take Selene's suggestion instead of going for a ring. Anyway, it is not impossible to use two or more MEDs at the same time in the future if he decided that he really need a ring for some quick spells.He took a bracelet from the table which made Professor Keil throw him a questioning look."Erol, I know it is not my place to meddle with your choices but don't you think that MED doesn't go well with you?", Professor Keil asked curiously as he already know that the young boy's mana aptitude is lower than the average. "I admit you are very good with academics except that your skills in controlling mana is not even average. For starters, I suggest you take a ring or an earring and change it to a better MED after you improve enough."After pondering for a second, Erol gave the professor a firm look, showing that he won't change his mind whatever his professor suggest. Professor Keil didn't know that Erol's power has already awakened and that his earlier stagnant progress has started to move unbeknownst to Erol himself.-------------------------------------------
