I gazed at my computer screen as I tried to think of a way to tie up my book review. I bopped my head to the blaring Drake song, finally coming up with a conclusion. "And that is this weeks book review, coming straight from your favorite Fangirl," I typed.
My phone buzzed and the name Vera popped up. I accepted the call and grinned when I heard my best friend's voice.
"Yo Anna! Whassup?"
"Not too much, just working on homework," I lied, while in reality I was working on my secret blog. You better not tell anyone about my blog, ok? I'll explain later.
"Since the school dance is coming up soon and Zac already asked me, I was wondering if you could help me pick out a dress tonight?" Vera asked softly.
I bit my lip as she asked. I hadn't been asked that and she knew that. "Oh, um sure. What time?" I questioned as my gaze fell back on my computer. A request had popped up. When I saw who it was, I nearly screamed. Alex, the hottest guy in school, wanted to follow my blog? No way. I pinched my arm gently just to be sure and turns out this was real life.
Vera spoke. "Anna? Did you hear me? Does 6:00 work?" She asked, sounding annoyed.
"Oh, yeah, 6 works. See you then." I hung up and inspected Alex's page. There were multiple pictures of him, mainly selfies. I accepted the request quickly and got up to find something to wear. I scavenged through my closet and eventually found an outfit:
After putting all the clothes on, I glanced at my clock. It was 5:30. Still thirty minutes to do nothing. I decided to check my blog again. Alex had commented on some of reviews, using such phrases like "Dang, that book sounds DOPE!" or "That book was good". Reading those comments shocked me. I honestly never pegged Alex as a big reader. On one of my reviews, I mentioned the high school I go to, a mistake on my part. His comment on that review shocked me. "Well, whoever you are mysterious girl, I would love if you would reveal yourself to me, girl behind the screen. ~ Alex". I swear I could hear my jaw hit the floor as I read that comment. ALEX WANTED TO MEET ME. I reread the comment numerous times until the words couldn't process in my head anymore.
I thought of a way to reply to him. I tried different ways of saying hello in different languages but I stuck to the generic "hey". I calculated a small response that read "Hey, I just wanted to say welcome to my blog. Oh, and if I would reveal myself to you I know you would unfollow. ~ Girl behind the screen". I very well knew that my cheeks had flushed as soon as I read his original message.
The door bell rang, which snapped me out of my daze. I gathered my purse and my coat before running down the steps to get to the door before my dork of a brother, Sam, opened the door. Of course, he got to it first.
Sam swung the door open and grinned cheekily when he saw Vera. "Long time no see."
Vera rolled her eyes "I'm here to pick Anna up."
I brushed past Sam and said bye, shutting the door and walking to Vera's car. She grinned at me. "Spill girly. Why do you look so happy?" She wiggled her eyebrows playfully before getting in on the driver's side of the car
I hadn't noticed I was grinning like an idiot before she asked me. As I got in her car. I wiped the smile off my face. "Nothing too big, I'm just really hoping that a guy will ask me out to the dance," I stated simply, which was half true. "Alright, tell me what kind of dress you're looking for."
Vera began rambling. "I would really like a one strap gown with a flower on the strap. Hold up, I would rather have two straps with an open back. No. That might look bad on me. Strapless would be nice. You know I like blue, and darker blue would look good with my blonde hair. But pink looks good on me too." Vera was usually like this. She could never make her mind up about anything.
I held my hand up for her to stop. "Vera, you can rock anything you wear. We'll find something you like, alright?" I encouraged with slight laughter as she nodded with a bright smile.
Vera pulled into a parking place at the dress boutique. She got out of the car and the excitement was undeniable on her face. "Lets go!" As she grabbed my hand, I giggled and followed her into the building. She rushed over to the gown section and looked through the rows of beautiful dresses.
I picked some up that I thought she would like and carried them over to her. Vera took them enthusiastically and headed into the dressing room to start trying on dresses while I waited in the lounge area. She tried on at least 15 dresses and finally decided on a peach, tight fit, two strap dress with silver embellishments. Vera drove me back home and I sprinted up to my room to check my computer for any message from Alex. There was a new one.
"Well then, at least talk to me via blog? ~ Alex"
I couldn't wipe the grin of my face that appeared when I read his message.
