It was an early start to the morning. We had no idea what was going to happen until it was too late. Jacob had walked in the passenger car and said "What are you doing?? You know that area is off limits!" That was our first clue that someone was not who they really said they were. Saturday afternoon had exploded with a fierce argument between companies Foxtrot and Delta. We were being deployed to Michigan, where a terrorist organization had begun rising out of the ashes. The Global Terror Domination was a terrorist organization that would do anything to bring down even the greatest nations. We had been given orders to stop them, before it was too late. Daniel told me that Michigan might one day never be the same. Our old drill Sargent had called us up the day before to wish us all luck. This was our first real combat mission. Sad enough it was in our own nation. The passenger car was able to fit at least twenty seven soldiers and enough cargo to last us at least three months. That was more than enough time to bring down this terrorist organization, or so we thought. "Is everyone ready for their mission Intel?" We were waiting several minutes before we actually received our mission Intel. After we had finally received our mission Intel, we began prepping for the beginning of what seemed to be something new. This was only the beginning. The only person who could possibly pull this off was our old drill Sargent, but he was retired, at home with his wife and kids I think. "Johnny? I was wondering whether or not we would make it out of this alive, what do you think?" Of course I told him we would make it safely back home. But no one was really sure if we would actually even make it back. Suddenly the train came to a complete standstill. When the lights started going out in the train, we had started wondering what was going on. I asked one of the men in charge and he said that the tracks ahead were blown to pieces. He told us to pack whatever we could and hop off the train. I was about twenty two years old when I got my first. Now, I've heard people talk about post traumatic stress disorder and how it could affect the rest of your life. But I never knew that it would happen to me.
Chapter 2:
"The Fear of Living"When everything around you seems a little too quiet, and the enemy is knocking on your doors. You know that something is out of place. After getting off the train, I had asked Johnny if he had packed enough ammo. My name is Justin, and I am twenty five years old. I grew up in the state of Michigan, so I knew the streets better than most of us here. This was the closest I had gotten to home in six years, after I had been shipped for basic. Seconds were passing by, nothing was happening. We were waiting several minutes for the enemy to appear over the horizon. The flatlands seemed to go on forever. There was a hill here and there to provide us cover, but that was about it. Soon we were approaching the city. I was glad to be home. But this home was under siege. Welcome to Dearborn, Michigan. Population twenty five. The rest of the town had scattered or were dead in the streets. You couldn't walk outside without being shot by either a sniper, or a patrol catching you outside. This was basically world war two again. There were a few skyscrapers in the main part of the city, that's were most of the city fled. "On your six, two one!" It was a feeling I had never gotten before, being shot at while shooting back at the enemy. This was completely different from basic training. If you want to know exactly what it's like to be shot at, go to a paintball tournament, then you'll know just half of what it is like. The night was closing in on us quickly and we were still in the outskirts of the city. We needed to get into the city by midnight, otherwise it was all off. Time was going by real slow though. "Maintain radio contact from here to the main part of the city. George and Johnny, you're with me. Everyone else, rally back here." This meant we were splitting up. It was approximately nineteen hundred thirty seven at night. For those of you that don't know your military time, that's seven thirty seven at night. There was about five hours remaining until our time was up. "Johnny, get the door!" I was anticipating there to be someone on the other side, as any soldier should. To my surprise, there was no one. It felt like a trap. We continued down the corridor expecting there to be enemies crawling all over, instead there was no one. This was a little odd, as there were machine gunners placed outside of the building. Everyone pointing their guns in one direction just protecting everyone's back. We continued up to the fourth, fifth, sixth, and top floor. Once we got to the top floor, we looked around expecting to find something out of place. Then we started hearing beeping. "Shit!! Everyone brace yourselves!" The building started collapsing, I landed hard on my back. Luckily something broke my fall. "Justin, you alright?!" Of course I was alright, I landed on a couch. "Everyone find some cover, we're about to get hit hard! Kill anything that doesn't own our flag. Got it?!" There are times it sucks to be right. It was a fucking trap. We were being surrounded and were running low on ammo. Damn terrorists didn't seem to give a shit about us. Suddenly, the ground started shaking.
Chapter 3:
"Chaos At Bay"I had finally completed my training. This was six months before all the shit had gone down in Michigan. My name is George Trunton, and my duty was to ensure the safety of the gentlemen who were with me. In any and all missions. That did not go so well the first mission. Our first mission was in Michigan. But I had taken a few days off before the mission to say goodbye to my family. Little did I know that this would be my last goodbye. I looked back to my mom, my dad, my wife and kids. I told them I would be back before Christmas. Of course I didn't know it would take longer than that. I hailed a taxi cab and he pulled to the side of the road. I got in and told him "Grand Central, please and thank you." The taxi started rolling along the highway. It took about an hour or so to get to Grand Central. When we finally got there, he asked for cash and I handed it to him. I wrote down the vehicles license plate number; and phone number, just in case. But I would not need it in the end. Today was the last day to say anything I wanted to say to my family for a long time. All the streets were full of different vehicles. I was looking at them as I rode along the highway in that taxi. After I had arrived at the station, the first thing I did was rally with the entire battalion. Next thing we did was roll call, making sure everyone was here. We needed all the firepower we could get for this mission. There were news reporters here wondering what was going on. They asked several of us many questions. A reporter asked me "What will you expect to see when you get to Michigan?" I told her that I would expect there to be many enemies and at least half of the city to be taken over. The train whistle started to blow. Conductors were shouting "All aboard that's going aboard!!" I knew that if I missed that train, that there would be no other way of getting to Michigan on time. I made it aboard with little time to spare. We started rolling along. It would take approximately two hours to get to Michigan.
Chapter 4:
"Another Time"My name is David McHolander. I am thirty two years old. Let me tell you something, sitting on the second floor of that passenger car was one of the best experiences I've had in a while! Eating fresh food, and drinking fine champagne with my fellow soldiers. Laughing, talking, all while enjoying quite the view. I would thank the people who drove this train for a wonderful experience. I knew it wouldn't last long though. So I made the best of it for as long as I could. I got to sleep in the most comfortable beds I've slept in for a while. It all went by so quickly. After the tracks had been blown out, I was sad to get off that train. But I didn't complain about it. We started heading north into the suburbs. There were enemies tanks crawling all over. "Looks like the city's still salvageable" said Thomas. I agreed with him. But we needed to move fast into the city. There were enemy tanks already heading that way.
Chapter 5:
"Away From 'Home'"I was the only one who didn't make it to the station in time. My name is Heather Winston. The reason I did not make it to the station is, because I live in West Virginia. Plus, I overslept. I did not know what to expect in the future; both from my commanding officer, and from the admiral. Just as I was waking up, I received an email from my commanding officer. As I had expected for him to email me. I responded to him, saying that I had trouble sleeping the night before. He replied a few minutes later, and he was less than understanding. I tried to explain to him that I had two jobs; one with the military, and the other as a police officer. He finally understood what I was going through, and he gave me all the time I needed. My husband however, was less than forthcoming. He told me to pack my shit and get to Michigan as soon as possible, otherwise they might court martial me. I told him that they wouldn't do that. Especially to a woman who has two major, time consuming jobs. "You need to get there now! They will bitch to you about being late! It doesn't matter what you think, only what they think. Welcome to the Army sweetheart." That might as well have told me to go fuck off. But I didn't deal with his complaining. I just walked into my room and started working on my paperwork that was due two days from now. Finally, an hour had gone by and I could finally rest. It was eleven twenty seven at night when I went to sleep. Sadly though, I had to get up at six fourty five in the morning.
