Chapter1~

How It Came to Be (finished! on to next chapter!)

I looked down and flailed my legs as I hung from my favorite Sakura tree. Staring at the ground I absent-mindedly hummed a little tune my mother used to sing to me. I stopped my flailing and just hung there, listening to the nearby river.

So serine......a tug on my legs and a fall into soft arms woke me from my peaceful daydream.

"Sleepy?" my brother Axel asked.

"Mhmhhm" I lazily replied. I nestled my head against his chest. He kissed my forehead and carried me inside and gently put me down on my bead.

I heard a knock on the front door and buried my head in the covers. My brother rubbed my back to comfort me. Only one group of people went to our house. The Gatherers is what we called them. They wanted to take my brother and I away because we had.....abilities. Special, of course. We were fire manipulaters, my whole family. The Gatherers wanted to take Axel and I to their school for children with "special abilities". My parents wouldnt let them, though. Over their dead bodies would the Gatherers take us.

Sadly little did I know that day would come far sooner than I had ever imagined.

My name is Ash Lovelace. I am 12 years old, female and a pyromancer. I am what is called a "pureblood". Both my parents are pyromancers, and I am especialy pure since most of my ancestors were purebloods as well. The offspring is stronger than the parents, so my brother and I are currently the strongest in our clan; I however, posess the abilit called "Phoenix Overdrive", making me the absolute strongest. Though I posessed this ability, I did not understand it at all nor had I experienced it until the day the men came to our little villa in the country.

Anyway, now you know about me. Back to the story.

My mother answered the door, I heard her sweet voice asking the men to please leave. The men refused. She asked again. Still the men refused. This time I heard my father warning them, yet they refused to leave without us. My mother sighed. "Gentlemen-" she began but was cut off by one of the men.

I heard him slap her.

"Dont you 'Gentlemen' us, bitch. We're taking those kids. Today" he growled. With that the men shoved their way into the house to begin their search, but they were stopped by my father. He punched the one who had slapped my mother and started a brawl. From what I had already heard, there were about five men shouting and fighting. I ran out of my room, my brother close behind, and looked out a window to see that Father had somehow managed to lead the fight outside and was now using his fire against them.

They didnt look like gangsters or anything, just normal people; though one man had exeptional beauty and pointed ears which was a dead giveaway to the fact that he was an elf. This did not bother me much, for who is to say there cant be elves where pyromancers are? The all looked to be in their mid twenties to mid thirties, so they were already pretty strong. I saw that there was a water elf, the same as an elf but not quite as majestic and they controlled water and ice. One specific man caught my eye. He had long white hair that partialy covered his eyes; the color of his hair did nothing to make him look older, in fact, it might have made him look younger. He had a small black mask on that only covered his eyes, but the covered all his eyes so that you could not see his eyeballs. I guessed that they allowed him to see but let no one see him. All of his clothing was black; a leather jacket, black pants that looked a bit skinny, and black gloves that only covered up half of the fingers, revealing the rest that was unclothed to be thin and pale. He wielded a beautiful double bladed katana and I noticed a strange carving on the hilt- a cobra swollowing up a bird in flight. This gave me a feeling deeper than fear. It was like...a hint at the future. Something I could not escape, and it terrified me.

My mother ran up to Axel and I with a concerned yet very serious expression on her face. The side of it was still red from where she had been slapped. She gathered us up into her arms and held us. She whispered only one thing. Only one command:

"Run"
