"Run" was the only word she left for us. The last word she would speak to me. My mother ended the sweet embrace as she went outside to join the fight. Should I let her go? Should I run without looking back? But I knew I could not stop her. She was doing this for us to run, for us to live. How could I end her last task? I closed my eyes and exhaled. I grabbed Axel's hand and sprinted to the back of the house, to the side and into out barn, where my brother's and my horses were. As soon as we got in he grabbed my shoulder and said "Just what do you think your doing? Dont go running off somewhere unless I tell you to. Im older so Im to protect you."

"Only three years older." I mumbled. Then I added better reasoning. "And I can protect myself. Im the strongest. Im fine." I gave him a glare. I was only making him mad because I was scared, but Axel I knew could have a short fuse at times.

"Then what did Mother go out there for?!" He snapped. "Why are Mother and Father out there fighting?! For us! Because we are not strong enough to protect ourselves! Listen!" He kneeled down and grabbed both my shoulders. He spoke softer," Do you know what kind of men are out there fighting to steal us? Do you know how powerful they are? You could not defeat them alone. Mother and Father......will probably not survive."

"NO!" I shouted. What was he saying?! How could he say things like that to me?! "Shut up! Just shut up! They will win, they will! Mother and Father will," I choked. I was starting to cry. Tears rolled freely down my cheecks in spite of my effort to pull them back. Axel hugged me.

"Im sorry," he said"Im just...worried."

"Im not." I admitted."Im scared."

{in the fight}

The brawl was not going so well. Ash's and Axel's father,Matthew, was growing tired from using so much fire. His wife, Melody, was also becoming overwhelmed. Bleak. Thats how the outcome looked. Hopeless. Matthew dodged a puch to the face only to be met by a hit to the stomach so powerful it sent him flying a few feet. The deliverer of the hit stood over him. "Damn it, Tobichiru..." He winced as he coughed up blood. The figure in all black with white hair smirked.

"Youre pretty weak. Like a human" he licked his lips and chukled. "And to think, your offspring is her, the Pheonix." The smirk turned into an evil, lustful grin." I bet she tastes so delicioussss......" His silky voice was cut off by Matthew.

"SHUT UP YOU DEMENTED BASTARD!" A thousand fire sparrows rocketed towards Tobichiru who dodged them easily, but was met by a fireball that exploded on his chest. He let out a pained cry then lunged to grab Mattthew's throat. After grabbing a firm hold of his neck, Tobichiru gently placed his free palm on Matthew's chest. There was a popping noise, then what shounded like a shreik as lightning struck his chest. Matthew could not hold back a tortured cry of agony as the electricity pulsed through his body.

"MATTHEW!!" Shrieked Melody. Her distraction caused her to be beaten into the ground. As Matthew breathed his last breaths, Tobichiru leaned in and whispered;

"I regret this. Sleep well, Father."

{Back in the barn}

I was chewing on my nails in anxiety. I had to know what was going on. "Axel I-"

"Youre not going down there."

"Please! I have to know how the fight is going!!" I pleaded. I knew Axel was dying to know aslo. He sat debating silently with himself for a moment, then looked sternly at me.

"Stay behind me at all times and do what I say. Got it?"

My eyes brightened up. "Yes!" And so we stepped out of the shack for the horses and into daylight. I stuck close behind Axel as we walked pressed against the side of the house toward the battle.
