"I am terribly sorry to be the bearer of this bad news, but your last relative, or your aunt Ashley, won't take you either. I know this is hard, but you'll have to be put up for adoption"
My whole extended family has been ignoring my parents for years. I'm not surprised that they won't take me. I'm not sure why they're so mad, but I wouldn't want to be with them anyway.
"I know this is fast, but I've already agreed to send you to a special adoption agency" she smiles creepily, making me nervous. I haven't talked to anyone since the crash, so I'm surprised by my own voice.
"So you think I need some sort specail treatment?"
"Oh no, you'll see" she smiles again, then leaves me to my lonely makeshift room. I pull out a picture of my parents on their wedding day, one of the few memories I get to keep. They always looked so happy, so alive. Never once did they fight or argue, they they loved their lives so much. And now they're gone.
It's hot and dry outside, a normal summer in Texas. Dead grass blankets the lawn of whatever building they put me in, sprinklers pathetically trying to nurse it back to health.
An old car suddenly drives up, navy blue with overly large headlights. A woman in a fluffy fur coat and scarf comes out, obviously not from here. Her whitish grey hair is curled and sort of pinned up and her makeup is literally dripping off of her face because of her sweat. She walks inside, so I go back to watching the dead grass grow.
