At the restaurant, Emily and Guy were having an amazing time. The two had been chatting away, completely forgetting everything around them. They were simply having a good time, Emily mostly. She was relieved to have something to forget everything else for. She didn’t want to remember all the pain she had been suffering through for the past months.
Guy reached across the table for Emily’s hand. It was unexpected, yet so subtle that Emily wasn’t startled by it.
“Emily, did I ever tell you how . . . no never mind. That’s so cheesy.” Guy said.
“No it isn’t. I wanna’ hear it.” Emily smiled.
“You’re beautiful.”
“That was cheesy?”
“The way I was going to say it, wasn’t original. You know, used by like every guy.”
Emily laughed. “But at least you said it. And thank you.”
Guy returned her warm smile.
Emily suddenly reached over to her phone, which had just vibrated to alert her that she had just received a text message. She quickly read it, wondering why it slightly dampened the moment. Probably just because she was having such a great time.
‘I want to see u.’
Nithyas had texted her. Emily replied that she was currently busy, but she would see him later. She almost felt bad for blowing him off for Guy, and she even started to regret not listening to Emeil. Emily forced the two thoughts to the back of her mind.
She continued her conversation with Guy, quickly forgetting about Nithyas. After all, Guy was consuming her full attention. He was being so sweet, just like when they were first interested in each other. He had even bought her a necklace that she had been admiring.
As Emily put it on, she smiled at the owl pendant, which was black and silver, and had a faded, antique look. She loved it.
Guy wrapped his arm around her shoulder as they continued to walk around the plaza. Occasionally Emily would text Nithyas or Mariette, but paid more attention to Guy. She had only told Mariette what she was doing, and had said nothing more to Nithyas. He wondered himself what she was up to, but kept out of her business. He had no clue she was with Guy.
Nithyas looked to Mariette, who was texting away to Emily. The two had been texting each other more than he had been. Mariette had told him the same that Emily did- she was busy, simple as that. He had believed them of course, but he felt the stabbing pain of being away from Emily. He missed her so terribly bad. Over and over he played that night in his head, the night he and Emily were sitting outside, after his visit with Jane.
“You know what?” Mariette suddenly asked.
“What?” Nithyas responded.
“Let’s go kidnap Emily. She needs to have fun with us.”
“Okay. I love that idea.” Nithyas said the truth. He imagined it, just like how they used to fool around, pretending they were going to kidnap each other, even though they lived three minutes away.
“Ha ha.” Mariette said. “Let’s go hang with Emeil. I'm bored.”
“Sure. I’ll drive.” Nithyas got up and followed Mariette out of her room and down to his car. They arrived at Emily’s shortly.
“Hey!” Emeil greeted as they came in.
“Where’s Emily?” Mariette asked him, after hugging Emeil. “She only told us she’s busy.”
Emeil hid his not-so-surprised-lift-of-the-eyebrows. So she had been keeping secrets from her friends, huh? As much as he hated it, he would have to kiss up to Emily’s ass, and take cover for her. Damn why wouldn’t she listen? It pissed him off to have to lie, especially to his best friends.
