Chapter 1
The alarm clock buzzed loudly. I groaned. I glanced over at it. 7:30, it read. I groaned again, and burrowed under the duvet, all set to go back to sleep. That is, until my mum came bursting throught the door, and hearing my alarm go off, marched over to my window and ripped open the curtains. I had been watching her do this, until the sunshine temporarily blinded me by it's brightness. I then burrowed under the duvet yet again, to save myself from losing my eyesight. "Come on Lucy, get up. You have school today", my mum sighed irratibly. Suddenly an idea struck me. "But mu-um! I'm not feeling well at all today, I have a really sore head, and a very sore throat." Then wanting to prove my point, "Cough cough". My mum looked at me through narrowed eyes. "Don't try and pretend you're sick Lucy.", then added "And saying the words 'cough cough' isn't going to make me think you are unwell." After that she marched back out of my room, down the hall, then, paused at the stairs and called back up "And don't think of going back to sleep Lucy! I'll be coming up in 15 minutes to make sure you're out of bed!" And with that last sentence, I groaned for the third time this morning.
After having a shower, I felt much more refreshed - and very hungry. I walked downstairs, inhaling deeply the aroma of food. As I walked into the kitchen, my mum was just setting down a plate of food at my place at the table. I smiled to myself. No matter how tired I am in the morning, I always manage to make it downstairs in time for breakfast. I sat down next to my father, and started to eat quickly. I was ravenous. My father chuckled lightly at the sight of me. "What?", I asked, but it came out all muffled because my mouth was full of food. This made my father laugh more. My mother looked at me from across the table with a frown. She didn't have a good sense of humour like my father. She preferred to moan and scold me, rather than chuckle at me. Once I had finished my breakfast, I went upstairs to get ready for school. After I had put on my cheer uniform, I brushed and smoothed my naturally wavy blonde hair, put on some eyeliner and mascara, dabbed a little lipgloss on and I was ready to go. I grabbed my sneakers and a hoodie, picked up my car keys and called goodbye to my parents. I went outside to my car. It was a Cherry Red Lambourghini. I loved it. So many of my friends were envious of me because of it. Well, that wasn't everything they were envious about. I was the prettiest girl in the school, with blonde hair, blue eyes, and a figure to die for, my parents were wealthy, and we stayed in a big house, I had an expensive car, I was head cheerleader and I was dating the quarterback from the football team, Adam Houston. But even though my life was Oh-So-Perfect, did I enjoy it? No, I didn't. I hated being so popular, with all the girls jealous of me, and all the boys constantly checking me out. I hated having to pretend I was happy all the time, when I really wasn't. And I was sick of people telling me how beautiful I was. Like, hello! I do own a mirror! Though, to be honest, I found my beauty more of a burden than a blessing. As I was wondering what my life would be like if I wasn't so pretty, I realised I was still sitting in my garage in my car, and decided to drive to school. As soon as I had parked my car and stepped out of it, tons of guys and girls swarmed towards me, and started talking to me at once. Clingy much? I smiled at them and continued to cross the car park to the usual spot at my boyfriend Adam's car. He saw me walking towards him, and jumped off the hood of the car to greet me. He was a sweet guy, but he was really clingy. "Hey babe", he said. I grimaced. I hated being called 'babe'. I smiled at him, and took his hand and let him lead me back to his car. It wasn't that I didn't like Adam, he was a really nice guy, it's just that he gets all obssesive and protective when I talk to other guys. Like just now, when I started talking to his friends that were sitting and standing around his car, he scowled and put his arm around my shoulders. I hated this. He was acting like a 5 year old. He was acting like I was his favourite toy and everyone else was trying to steal it from him. I had to end this soon. He was really getting on my nerves. I decided that I would end it with him tonight. I would ask him if I could come over, then I would tell him, and leave. Great, something else to dread. Looking for a chance to escape him, I glanced around the parking lot, and spotting my good friend Bradley, I jumped up and shouted him over. "Hey Lucy." he said when he came over, and gave me a hug. Out of the corner, of my eye, I saw Adam glaring at us. God he was obssessed. I would be glad to get rid of him. "Hey Bradley. What you been up to lately?", I asked. He smiled. "Well, I finally asked Rachel out!" he said, with a massive grin on his face. Good! He had been crushing on her for a while now, and I think she liked him too. The good thing with Bradley is that he isn't a player like almost every other guy in the school, and I could go to him with all my problems. He has never tried to hit on me, and he is a really good friend. I was happy for him. "Brilliant!. Now, I don't have to listen to you go on about how much you like her!", I joked. He smiled. "Aww, you love me really", he said with a cheeky grin. "Yeah, I guess I do", I teased back. At that comment, Adam came over and took my hand. "We should be getting to our lockers babe. I need to get my stuff", he said. With one last smile, I said to Bradley. "Well, I guess I should be going. See you later?" I asked. Bradley was smirking at Adam's protectiveness. He liked to make him jealous. "You want to catch a movie, Friday night?" he asked sniggering. Adam snorted. he expected me to turn him down. Well, I wasn't about to do that. "Sure", I said. "We can arrange it tomorrow?" Adam's face was filled with anger and jealousy. "Okay", Bradley replied, and with one last smirk, he walked away to join his friends again. As we walked to our lockers, Adam turned to me in anger "What the hell was all that about?!" he exploded. Suddenly, I was furious. How dare he? I am aloud other guy friends! "Excuse me?!" I said back to him. "You're meant to be my girlfriend, and now you're arranging to go see a movie with another guy?!", he shouted in frustration. This was the last staw for me. "Adam, I'm sick of you being so obssessed with me. I have other guy friends, and I have a right to hang out with them. I'm not your girlfriend anymore. It's over", and with that I stalked off to find Bradley again. "Lucy, please!", Adam shouted back. "Give us another chance! I'll let you hang around with your little guy friends if it means so much to you!", he called down the corridor at my retreating back. By now, everyone's eyes were on us. I smiled. Is he stupid or something? I turned back around to face him. "You disgust me", I said and walked away again, and joined Bradley with his little group of friends. Bradley burst out laughing at my face. I was fuming! "What?" I spat. He had really put me in a bad mood now. "It's just, I don't think I've ever seen you so angry before! I can't believe you ditched him! Well, actually I can, cos' he's an ass", he said. I smiled at that last comment and rolled my eyes. "It was your fault it happened! You were the one that made him mad, asking me to a movie and making him jealous!", I teased. He had probably done it on purpose, sneaky as he is. When I first started dating Adam, he kept telling me that he wasn't right for me. That he would just use me. And I kept telling him he was wrong about Adam. Bradley smiled, reading my thoughts. "I told you s-", I cut him off by kicking him in the shin "-o ouchhhh!", he cried. I smirked, then my face turned to pure horror. He had a big grin on his face. "Oh, no", I said and ran as fast as I could. But being the jock that he is, he caught up with me pretty quickly, and tackled me to the floor, but making sure that I landed on top of him, and that I didn't hurt myself. Unlucky for us, we landed right in front of Adam. "What the fuck?!", he screamed, as me and Bradley stood up. Adam walked over to Bradley, and punched him. Oh, hell no! I marched up to Adam, and slapped him right across the face. Hard. He turned round to me, outraged. He grabbed me by the shoulders "What the fuck do you think you're doing?!" I smiled at him. I had just got a great idea. Just as he was about to continue his rant, I brought my knee up quickly and kneed him right where the sun don't shine. He dropped to the floor in pain, groaning. "Bitch", he muttered. "That'll teach you Adam", I said and flounced away with Bradley again, just as the bell was going for the start of 1st lesson.
