Chapter 1:

The weather was so breezy and nice.

We just arrived at the beach in Hawaii after taking a taxi that offered us the cheapest ride from the city center. We, Jake and I, walked around the huge shore that consisted of a restaurant and lots of people lying around trying to get a tan. After looking around, my eyes immediately reverted back to the crystal blue water. I quickly grabbed Jake's arm, and dragged him towards a few empty chairs. Quickly, we shed the clothes we had on over our swimming suits and headed towards the water, it was too tempting not to.

"Wait!" I heard Jake say. I turned around to see why he stopped to see that he was pointing towards a diving cliff. My mouth formed into a smirk as we headed towards it.

"Ready?" he said.

"Ready," I responded, holding my breath as we ran closer and closer to the edge, front flipping into the icy cold water underneath us.

I opened my eyes underwater to see so many different kinds of fish swimming around me. After taking in the view, I quickly swam up to the top of the water to catch my breath.

As I resurfaced, I looked around to see where Jake was.

Then, I felt my sides twitch. I laughed as I realized it was Jake, the only person who knew my tickle spot.

He came out of the water, his blue eyes matching the color of the water.

"Come on," he said, starting to swim towards shore.

I followed him out of the ocean, swimming around snorkelers. We walked around for a little bit, talking about the fish that were so close to the shore, until we got to a cute tiki hut that was offering jet ski rides. We obviously wanted to do it, asking the man for more information. We decided to go on it for 30 minutes, and he gave us our life jackets.

He told us to follow him to the water, and we hopped on the jet ski, agreeing that Jake should drive. I got behind him, wrapping my arms around his torso. The instructor explained the rules to Jake, me knowing he wasn't going to follow them anyway.

We started off going to the middle of the water, away from all of the people. The instructor told us that it was far enough and that we could start.

"Hold on..." yelled Jake. I grabbed his life jacket for dear life. Jake floored the jet ski, and we zoomed forward. The water started to lightly splash my face and my beach hair was flowing rapidly through the wind. We both started to laugh as he slowed down and turned the jet ski around. I knew he was headed towards the waves we had just created. He floored the ski again, and I closed my eyes just to take in all of the surroundings...

I woke up to my alarm ringing near my ear. My eyes groggily started to open to see the light shining through my blinds. I turned to my phone to shut off my alarm. I turned out of my cozy queen bed, desperately wanting to stay in it all day. I sighed remembering the flashback dream to our senior trip together.

I rubbed my face and groaned to myself. I stood out of my bed, noticing the mess I made on my bedroom floor with all of my school books. First semester finals were next week, and I was making sure that I knew every detail about everything.

I made my Urban Outfitter designed bed that I absolutely adored. Sluggishly walking towards my bathroom, I turned on the water and took off my pajamas. I stayed in the shower for 30 minutes letting the warm water cascade on my bare skin, thinking about the flashback dream. I tried to push those memories out of my head as they were making me remember the one person I was trying to avoid thinking about most.

I turned the water off after I tried to rinse away all of the thoughts I wanted to get rid of. Wrapping the towel around myself, I got out and turned to the mirror to face myself. All I could do was sigh. Starting my morning routine, I went to my closet to pick out my new, cozy grey sweater, pairing it with black skinny jeans, black ankle booties, and a long, black coat. I picked out my boho silver layering necklaces to go with it.

I got my hairdryer and started to dry my long, dark brown hair. After drying it, I pulled out my curler, and spritzed my hair with some heat protectant. Then I proceeded to slightly curl my hair, and then moving on to my makeup.

After I finished, I gave myself a long look in the mirror. Sure I might try to look presentable everyday, but that doesn't mean my feelings and emotions from the past don't get to me.

Leaving Seattle after growing up there all my life might make you think I would be home sick. But I wasn't. When I came here to New York to start my college career, I wanted to leave Seattle and not go back to the memories that I do not want to remember.

I applied to NYU my senior year of high school, and I got accepted. I was so excited, yet I was devastated to leave my friends and family behind, at first. This was before all the drama with my family and my then best friend Jake started.

Jake. I groaned to myself thinking about him. He was committed to University of Washington from day 1, since his older sister graduated from there, his older brother is currently there, and since he basically got a full ride for basketball. He was my best friend since birth. Literally. We were born on the same day, and our parents met each other in the hospital, instantly becoming best friends. We ended up going to the same elementary, middle, and high school, always having each other even though we had different friend groups at times. We went through everything together, it just kind of sucks that it's all wasted now.

I tried to push those thoughts away, trying to start my day. It was December of my sophomore year in college, a week before finals. I did not need any distractions, especially now. I grabbed a banana from the kitchen, and grabbed my bag, and headed to school.
