Cas received his first round of chemo, but couldn't feel much of the effects. At least not yet.
As Cas walked out of the hospital, he ran into Dean. Dean smiled politely and Cas waved awkwardly. They both were so odd at this. Fighting things that were odd to them. Not about the cancer, but the so called "sparks" radiating whenever they were near each other.
Cas tried to make conversation by walking closer and saying "where's the gift shop? Any good ideas for a gift for a friend who's best friend has cancer?" He smiled and said and a joking tone.
It took Dean back a little bit by such an odd question. He couldn't have just left it at 'where's the gift shop?'. Dean smiled politely again, and waved his hand towards a long hallway. "Right this way." He led as Cas followed close behind. As they walked, Cas couldn't help but feel a tad giddy. He held back a smile and Dean caught it. "What's so exciting about gift shops?" He asked Cas. Cas chuckled, "its not the gift shop that's exciting." Cas tried to seem nonchalant, but Dean picked it up right away.
Finally they reach the gift shop. "Teddy bears always do the job. The trick is to find which one they'll like the best. Is this for a girlfriend?" Dean asked. He almost regretted it right as it came out of his mouth.
"No, single as a Pringle. Guess cancer isn't the new black?" Cas joked. Dean apparently wasn't used to the morbid humor, but he chuckled anyways.
"That's dark, man. " dean said with a faint smile.
"There not much else to do besides make the best of it. You oughta know this, dealing with patients all the time, right?" He smiled back at Dean. Smiling was a frequent thing between the two since this morning.
"I guess so yeah. How about this one?" Dean picked up a teddy bear with an arm sling and a bandage on his foot. "How about this? Does handicap sell?" He chuckled at his poor joke.
Cast smiled along and grabbed the bear from Dean. "Its perfect." He walked to the till and grabbed money to pay for it. "So do you always walk your patients and help pick up stuffed animals for a distraught friend?" Cas looked at his feet then back up at dean.
"I wouldn't call it my routine, no." He rubbed the back of his neck. He had a shy smile plastered onto his face.
Cas let our a big chuckle as he paid for the bear and the cashier bagged up the teddy. Cas grabbed the bear as he began to walk and Dean followed.
"So I need to be back Monday?" Cas asked as he swung the bear around in the bag.
"Bright and early at 9" he smiled.
"I'll see you then" cas smiled and waved and left the hospital.
Dean smiled as Cas left. Dean spun on his heel and walked back to his office.
