Chapter 1:

Cat's POV:

I walked out of the airport, carrying my luggage with me. Now that I was pretty much an orphan, I had to stay with my aunt's close friend, Betsy Franco. It's no Cheshire, England... that's for sure... That was when I saw my nemesis.

"Fat Cat," James bluntly said.

"Good morning to you too," I replied, glancing at my shoes.

He grabbed my luggage and threw them in his trunk, God knows what happened to my stuff, and sat in the driver's seat. I stood there, amazed at how his manners never changed.

*three days later*

"Morning Cat," Mrs. Franco greeted me warmly.

"Morning Bets," I smiled.

"Here's the deal. Act as if you don't know me. I won't answer any of your questions, won't acknowledge your presence. Don't bother asking me for a ride home," James glared at me... such manners from an 18 year old.

I walked into Betsy's car, and she drove James and me to school. Although the ride was silent, I kept sneaking glances at James, hoping to figure out why he held such a grudge against me.

At school, I walked into my first class, where the teacher assigned me to my permanent seat. Right next to James. Great. He sat on the edge of his chair; I worried that he'd fall off, but I kept my mouth shut. It hurt how much he hated me, we used to be such good friends 8 years ago, when I told him I had a crush on him. Now he was like the angel from the underworld, crushing my hopes into flames.

My next class was... music... great... Apparently they were holding auditions for the school singing competition, maybe I could try out. I asked the three seniors how I could audition, and the blonde girl with purple highlights replied, "Just go up on stage and introduce yourself, sing a song."

I walked up to the mic on stage, and the girl asked, "Ok what's your name?"

"Caterina Fitz."

"And what song will you be singing?"

"Uh... I Will Always Love You?"

Another senior interrupted, asking, "Are you sure you can do that?"

"Yep."

The song started, and I had a hard time standing still. I was shivering tremendously, afraid of embarassment. I closed my eyes and began singing, thinking of my family, the car crash, and how they were probably watching over me right now. A few seconds passed by, I opened my eyes, and the three seniors smiled and stood up, cheering me on. I continued singing my heart out, "but above all this, I wish you love..."

At the end of the song, I heard a surprisingly loud applause. The whole student body, staff, teachers, everyone was in the auditorium, screaming and clapping for me. Wow. I saw James smiling, and when we made I contact, he looked away.

Maybe this was a real new start. Maybe I would'nt have to be broken the rest of my life...

*comment what you think, the first few chapters are sorta sucky xD*
