Adam Riskly sat at his kitchen island as he looked through his current case files, he was so into his work he didn't even hear his younger brother, Evan Riskly come into the room. "Mom is so pissed with you right now" Evan proclaimed causing Adam to jump in surprise "when did you get in here" he said looking at the younger man "oh a good three minutes ago" he said with a lax grin as he leaned on the island top. "Ok that answers that question. Now why is mom pissed at me?" he asked as he raised a light eye brow "you missed family dinner" he announced helpfully as Adam looked up to his wall clock and saw that it was indeed eight p.m. "Oh crap well I got distracted trying to find any break in this case I can use and crap" he said for lack of a better excuse "well I'll have to deal with that later then" he concluded as he ran a hand through his sandy blond hair.
After all of his mother's children had become adults and had moved out his mother had started family dinners on Friday nights only excused for work. He was technically working but since he was at home he was bound to hear about it and beg forgiveness for missing dinner.
"I thought you were suppose to be getting a partner?" Evan inquired curiously "I am. I'm just trying to find the best one to work with" he tried to lie smoothly but had a hint of uncertainty in his voice. Evan wasn't falling for it "liar" he said bluntly Adam couldn't even fake indignation "alright fine I prefer working alone ok leave me alone" he said as he gathered his files and left the room. "Adam you promised mom you'd get a partner plus your boss who if you don't pick some one is going to pick some one for you" Evan said in only a way a little brother could get away with causing Adam to roll his eyes as he was followed from the room.
"I know that but if I never mention it he won't think about it" he came back with "that is the stupidest plan I have ever heard" Evan admitted "Ev drop it please" Adam bit back when his phone started to go off he looked at the cell screen and pulled it to his ear "hey boss" he answered cheerfully "get your ass to the station now" he said as he hung up. Adam grimaced at the phone as his younger brother grinned "have fun" he said as he left the room while Adam got his gear and gun and passed Evan in the living room. "Oh do please stay and make yourself at home" Adam sarcastically said on the way to the door "already have" Evan said in reply with a grin as he flipped through channels on the TV.
Adam shook his head as he closed the door to his house and got into his car and buckled up to go see what his irritated boss wanted and why he was needed at work.
