Chapter 1- Pilot
Meela's POV
I ran as fast as I could, carrying Kale on my back. I stepped on a broken piece of glass that had probably came from one of Ricket's old rum bottles. I heard the gun being fired in the distance, I had no time to spare so, I kept running, the glass I felt stabbing into my foot, I couldn't run much more with this slowing me down, I waited for a while to listen for anymore gun shots and, spotted a small crawl space in a tall, old, rotten oak tree. I hide inside and, cared for my foot. Kale was a small little girl that was also, a slave like me.
She had long brown hair as, did I and, green eyes, that was our only facial difference. I have hazel eyes, we look a lot alike, what's to be expected since we are sisters.. We both we're born of the same parents... But, they died long ago. We don't really know who our parents was but.. I have some but, very few memories of them. One I can remember almost perfectly though is, the day they got killed.....
The day the emperor killed them. It was the first day of fall.. The day my mother would take me and, my sister out to see the fall leaves. My sister was very young then so, she doesn't remember anything. But, I do.. My father had finally been released from the emperor's armies and, allowed to see us again and, he wanted to come with us to see the fall leaves... I remember being so excited.
We left the runaway slaves at the house. We had been housing the slaves that had escaped from the emperor in our home for shelter. My father had me ride on his shoulders so I could reach the leaves. He was very tall and, was very handsome, he had long dark black hair he usually pulled back, with his pointy red/brown wolf ears and, bright green eyes while my mom has short reddish brown hair, floppy white and, fawn spotted ears and, hazel eyes. Lots of people said I looked a lot like her, I can even see my father's wild eyes when I look at my sister.
We we're fine until my father's ears perked up, his tail was straight as a stick.
"Their here..." He had whispered under his breath. My mom stared in horror at him.
"Meela, you stay here with your sister, okay?!"
"But, daddy whats going on?"
"Honey, just do what daddy says."
"Daddy?"
"Yes, Meela?"
"Your going to come back right? You and, mommy?" I asked. I had already witnessed my grandparents being hung right in front of my eyes by the emperor, my aunt and, uncle had their heads cut too, the only remainder of my family was my parents, my sister and, me. I didn't really understand death and, all I knew was once their body was cold.. You'd never feel their warm touch again...
"Promise me you'll protect your sister! Take this and, I give this to no one!" He said in a stern tone, he shoved a silver bladed katana into the palms of my hands and, ran toward the house. I stood and, watched as my mother followed. All that I could hear going through my head is "Promise me you'll protect your sister!" She didn't even get to promise him.. He had already ran off probably, to never return.
All I had the words to say was. "I promise.. Daddy." I began to weep and, belch out "I promise! I promise..." The only words I could possibly say. I began to run toward the house grabbing my sister and, dragging her along. I stopped and, kneeled down to her.
"Sissy loves you..." I forced a fake smile, knowing the fate of my parents and, maybe me to follow.
"Sis-sy... Why are you sad?" She asked her head curving to the side, her floppy ears pointed. She stared at me and, waited for an answer.
