I Could Never Say No To This (Eruri)

Chapter 3

Levi's POV

I usually work later than the rest of the staff, but tonight I thought I would leave a little earlier. After everyone was gone, of course, but today has been a rather rough day. Especially since I found out that Erwin was staying in the office next to mine. It's about 8:50, and I get off at 8:30. I don't understand why he had to work in the particular office, there are many more offices on this floor that are empty. What about the whole building? This is getting through to my head. I thought I was never gonna see him again, it would've been better for me...but now I have to see him everyday.

As I was getting wrapped up in my thoughts, I noticed the phone on the far end of my desk began to ring. I look and see which office number it's from...office 318...that's Erwin's office. I stared blankly at the phone, I wanted to pick it up, but I couldn't. My heart began to race and I ever so slowly picked up the phone and held it gently to my left ear.

"Hello..?" I spoke lightly, I was trying to seem professional, but that was the hard part.

A deeper make spoke, "Levi..." I tried to swallow the lump in my throat, but it wouldn't go away, I just sat there not knowing what to say. "Levi?" He spoke again, this time a little more confused. I hung the phone up quickly.

I should leave now, I didn't even know there was anyone left on this floor, I thought Erwin had gone home. I tried to pack my things in my briefcase as quickly as I could. I quietly stepped out of my office and locked it. I was trying to be as quiet as possible. I was walking quickly t the elevator but before I made it, I heard the noise of keys jingling and noticed Erwin was walking behind me.

"Levi, please listen...I don't want any trouble. I just, I need to talk to you. We can't just hold this off forever if we are going to be working together," Erwin said in a calm tone. "I need to tell you the truth."

I didn't know what to do. What to say. How to say it. I felt incredibly uncomfortable, but he was right. If we are going to be working together, we need to talk. "Fine, what do u want?" I said in a rather irritated voice, I didn't know how else to say this without being soft.

"2 years ago, I need to tell u the truth. I still loved you Levi. I wanted no one else but you. And that one night, wasn't what you had interpreted it---" i cut Erwin off.

"Erwin, you cheated on me! I loved you too. And when I came home to see you and Mike on the couch like that, that was the worst sight I had ever seen...you lied to me." I spoke. 2 years ago, Erwin and I were a couple. We were unstoppable. We would always be together no matter where we were. I gave everything to Erwin, and he gave me everything. One night, I had gotten home from work, it was late and it was a rainy day, and when it's a rainy day in the city, there are lots of traffic. I got home late, around 11:00pm and I unlocked the door and looked in my apartment to find Mike, a friend of Erwin and mine at the time, and Erwin cuddling on the couch under a giant red blanket. I ran out of that apartment and stayed with my good friend Eren.

"Oh my god, Levi, no! That's not what it was, just listen to me. Mike's boyfriend had broken up with him that night, and he had no where else to go. I offered to let him stay at our place for the night. It was nothing more I swear. Why would I cheat on you, you were the only man I had ever loved..."

I was very short compared to Erwin, but I turned around and I looked up at him, and spoke: "I don't know what to think. I loved you. And as much as I wanna believe you, I don't think that's possible. I need to worry about my job right now, I don't have time to deal with this. We can talk about some other time."

I clicked the "down" button on the elevator and Erwin stood behind me. It was the quietest and most unnerving elevator ride I had ever endured. Erwin then broke the silence.

"If you want, I'm not saying you have to, but I would like to invite you out to dinner to fix things up, and if that doesn't work, you never have to talk to me again. Okay?"

"Fine..." It was quiet for the rest of the night.
