APRIL POV
It's the first day of school since Christmas break as well as it's my birthday. What bad luck, right? I was hoping to have a nice and enjoyable 17th birthday, but no. Here I am waking up so early in the morning, getting ready for school. I can already conclude that this day will suck.
"Ma'am your breakfast is ready," Carrie says as she opens my bedroom door.
"Okay," I said, putting down my hair brush. I tidy up my uniform and walk my way downstairs into the kitchen, finding my parents and two other siblings already seated. Oh wait, I forgot. My step mother and step brother, might I say. How did this happen? Well, months after my younger sister Katie was born, my mom found out that my father had an affair and an illegitimate child. A boy who's 10 months younger than me. Hmph, let's just say a year. I'm seven years older than Katie which means that father has kept it a secret for seven years. Soon after Katie was born, my mom died due to rheumatic heart fever and since then, these two people moved into the house.
"Happy Birthday April," Andrea, my step mom greets me as I take my seat.
"Thank you Andrea." I must say, I've always had negative feelings for these two. There's just something about them that I don't feel right about. Plus, it is I and Dominic who's fighting for my father's chair.
"Here's my present for you," my cute little sister says as she hands out a small purple box. "I picked it out for you. Hope you like it," she smiles.
"Awh thank you Amanda!" I said, hugging her beside me. "I'll open it later okay?" I tell her as I put down the gift beside me. "Good morning father," I greeted the man seated at the head of the table.
He bows his head slightly in acknowledgment to my greeting. "You're turning eighteen soon. You must get yourself ready," he says. Actually, it sounded more of like an order than a simple command.
"Yes Father." I already knew what he was talking about. At the age of eighteen, my dad will give me a position in the company. Might be the CEO, you never know.
"But honey, what about Dominic?" Andrea asks Father after giving me a millisecond glare.
Father smirks. "We'll see."
I raise my head and find Dominic staring at me with an emotionless face, more of like a half glare actually. One would say he's handsome. I mean, how could they not? With his dark hair, green eyes and handsome face? It would be easy for a girl to fall in love with him. But well, that's for them. For me, he's nothing but an alligator who's eager to reach the top even if it means war.
I raise an eyebrow at him and sooner or later he focuses back on eating. If he wants war, I'll give him war.
The rest of breakfast passed by quietly and soon enough Dominic and I had to leave for school. I did my usual routine, brush my teeth, gather my things and head to the car. I had to wait for five annoying minutes for Dominic to get ready. "You are so slow," I said, shaking my head looking very much annoyed.
He rolls his eyes. "Yeah whatever"

JAMES POV
It's my first day of school here at Merington High School. My parents just got divorced so my mom moved over to this place. Sadly, I had to go with her and leave my home plus dad. I wonder how hard it will be since it's already senior year and not to mention, the middle of the school year! Damn it.
"Hi can I sit here?" I ask one of the guys I talked to earlier during P.E.
"Sure man," he gladly says as he scoots over. I think his name was Derik..?
