The tension and the agitation allayed between Gris and I.

When we received our positions in the our business, Coastal Connections, I procured the position of Director of Sales and Marketing. Although I was crestfallen that I wasn't going to sit next to him, I discovered that the second job he applied for was in the Sales and Marketing department.

Our teacher handed the letter of offer to the Director of Human Resources, since nobody knew what their occupation was expect for the board of directors, Administrative Assistant, COO, and CEO. The Director of Human Resources, Andy Evans, task was to inscribe all of the students' names on the front of the letter. It was then that I saw Gris Carry's name scrawled on the letter of offer in the Sales and Marketing heap.

My breath hitched. I was going to overlook his work and be an incessant motivation to him.

The simple thought made my heart burst with bliss.

After thirty minutes or so, Andy was done with writing. He twirled his wrist and complained about trying to write legibly.

"At least you got it done before class ended." The Administrative Assistant, Kayla, mumbled as she sorted out the letters into their designated departments. She began wiggling her eyebrows, "That means that we get to hand out the letters of offer."

At once, my heart seemed to fall out of line from the same rhythmic beats.

Everyone in this class had Virtual Enterprise once or twice before, so we all knew the procedure on how to hand out the letters of offer.

My hand began trembling. I kept wiping my hands against my jeans to curtail the moisture.

And as if on cue, our teacher strode her way over to the departments and ordered them to be courteous to their fellow board of directors, Administrative Assistant, COO, and CEO.

I didn't know how in the world I ended up being first, but I was. I gulped, trying to relieve my parch throat.

"Um . . ." I began stupidly as everyone's eyes were zeroed in on me. "The Marketing Rep is Gris Carry."

At once, everyone started to applaud in a stilted manner as Gris got out of his seat. He sauntered towards me. My heart thumped harder the closer he got.

Finally, he was just standing in front of me. He grinned at me. We locked gazes for a split second. However, it felt like time was lapsing by leisurely.

I sucked in a sharp breath of air as I stuck out my hand. He gladly shook it, smiling a little wider. Though at this point, it seemed as though his smile was too contrived.

There was no need to smile that big.

And he took his letter of offer out of my hands just as he took away something from me, himself, his family, and everyone else around him.
