"Excuse me!"
As you were walking to class, you heard a shrill voice behind you. You turned to see who the voice belonged to, but you couldn't pinpoint the source since the campus had hundreds of people walking about. You decided to ignore it and keep walking until you heard it again, even louder than last time.
"EXCUSE ME!"
You stopped and turned again, and this time you saw a group of girls walk towards you. At the front of the group was a pale girl with thick framed glasses and poorly dyed purple hair.
"Excuse me, hi," said the girl. "Umm, we've been trying to recruit new members to our group, and we feel like you'd be the perfect candidate." You were a bit confused as to why they wanted you specifically. Sure, you didn't think you were boring, but you definitely weren't that special either. You began to grow curious.
"Okay... What is it that you all do, exactly?"
"We are a student-led group advocating for the equal rights of marginalized people." Okay, that didn't sound too bad. You decided to ask more.
"Anything more?"
"We've participated in many protests fighting against what we feel is oppressive behavior." You furrowed your brow trying to process what the girl just said.
"I have one of our protests on video!" piped another girl from the group. She walked over to you and handed her phone with the video already loaded.
You weren't ready.
The video started with screaming. There were people running all over the place, but when the frenzy cleared out, you saw the group standing with different signs and the purple haired girl holding a megaphone. It was a bit difficult to make out what she was saying since she was screaming along with it being amplified by the megaphone. All you knew was that her voice was making your ears bleed. You saw one of the girls break off from the group and began getting into a screaming match with a man from the frenzy from earlier. It was hard to hear at first, but then you heard her screech "YOU RACIST, HOMOPHOBIC, TRANSPHOBIC, MISOGYNISTIC MOTHERFUCKING SCUM!" as she shoved the man. The more you watched, the more sick to your stomach you got. The video ended with the purple haired girl walking up to the person filming and slapping the camera out of their hand.
Horrified, you looked at the now blank screen. Then you looked up at the girls with wide eyes. Back to the screen, then back to the girls.
"Well?" The purple haired girl said. You slowly walked up and handed the phone back to its owner and took several steps back.
"Umm... Well, you guys seem to be very.... Passionate... At what you do..."
"Uh huh..." The girl took a step forward and you stepped back immediately.
"And, uh, I'm sure you all are lovely people, but...."
"But..." Once again, she stepped forward and you stepped back.
"But... It's just that... The way you guys came across in that video... Was a bit too aggre-"
Without finishing your sentence you sprinted away, going as fast as you possibly could and running as far away from them until you ran out of breath. When you were sure you lost them, you kneeled, trying to catch your breath. You looked up and realized you were in front of the building you needed to be. How convenient.
You entered your classroom, but to your disappointment, it seemed as though all the seats were taken. You went around the perimeter of the room to check for empty seats, and luckily, you found one next to a guy with a lean build and black hair. You changed your position to get a better look at his face, and let's just say you liked what you saw. You casually slid into the empty seat and pulled a small mirror out of your bag to check your appearance. When everything looked good, you sat up straight and cleared your throat, ready to turn on the charm.
(No lie, I'm writing this as I go along. I hope you enjoyed this product of my neverending boredom.)
