Chapter 1

****

Carla Williams woke up in a panic, her hands automatically fumbling around in search for her alarm clock. She blinked her droopy eyes a few times, decided her brain wasn't working yet, then closed her eyes again while her hands wandered around.

"Luke, you are so dead if you hid my clock!" She hollered, hands still searching in vain while her mind was thinking about ways to get back at her brother, Luke.

Her eyes flew opened as she grabbed a handful of sand.

This doesn't feel right. Where am I?

Slowly her eyes adjusted to her bright surroundings. She could make out a few coconut trees swaying in the distance.

Wait, what! Coconut trees?

Carla's heart came to a sudden stop.

Oh no, is this God's punishment for being late to school three days in a row?

Carla was no longer in the safety of her bedroom but in a deserted long stretch of beach all alone.

Julie Roberts stretched her arms gracefully, yawning as she woke from her sleep. Her mind still lingering on the sweet dreams she had. She sighed contentedly, if only dreams were real and do come true, mentally preparing herself for a new day.

Then, she realized that she was all alone in the midst of a beach. Her heart started to pound a rapid staccato.

How on earth did I get here?

"Calm down Ju, it's probably your imagination. Now close your eyes and sleep again." She commanded herself, took a deep breath, closed her eyes and laid backwards.

Immediately she got up again, wincing, as she hit her head on a stone, hard.

"Ouchie!"

"That was dumb."

Julie whipped her head around so fast she was sure it almost detached. Her eyes grew round as she saw someone she never ever want to lay eyes upon again.

"YOU! What on earth are you doing here Carla Williams!"

Carla smirked at her, "Still as dumb and impolite are we, Julie Roberts?"

"You...you" Julie stuttered as she glared at Carla.

"Oh, poor darling. Since when did you stutter? Last I checked, you hurl words like swords. Did your tongue get rusty?" Carla snapped at her, sarcasm dripping from her words.

"Hey, you had a fair share of hurting me with words too. What's up with that rusty brain. Can't remember? Oh wait, a brain?" Julie retorted without missing a beat.

The girls stared daggers at each other as they both recalled that eventful day that ruined their three- year worth of friendship.
