Highway
What is it about the night ride down the highway.
Is it the red lights against the black road,
or the seldom twinkling star.
Being able to see for miles ahead of you,
And seeing the signs so far
Or knowing that your on the same road as a hundred others,
but all with different intentions.
That is why I'm on
This great expedition.
Driving in the day is not like driving in the night
When you have all that obnoxious light
And there is no air of mystery
to the place of where you are
And the air doesn't feel as cool
And the drive not that far
You never have that problem
When you are diving with the night
Everything is perfect
But nothing is absolutely right
Seeing all the buildings pass
Some high and some low
Seeing all the lights above
glimmer and glow
That is all the light I need
To see within the night
Sitting in the back seat, with only the sound of the street
The freedom
The choice
To go down any road
To just go on and go
What is it about the night drive
I believe I have found the answer
It's the freedom it gives us
To go faster and faster
How one turn can change a life
For better or for worse
That is why I'm on this road tonight.
For fate or for curse
So while you're out on your next drive
Think of my poem and me
That would mean so much to us
Good night from the dark you see
