Tao rolled himself out of bed and threw on an outfit that would fit in just enough so people would notice him. He went downstairs and looked for his cereal and a strip of bacon. He threw his backpack on and yelled, "MOM! ITS TIME FOR SCHOOL!" It was 7:30 and the first bell rang at 8:00. He wasn't going to be late to his first day in 11th grade. Especially not his one chance to make friends that would hopefully last him until college in two years.

Tao's mother clapped her heels on the hardwood floor on every step down the stairs. She grabbed her purse and keys that were on the shelf next to the door. The car ride there was silent, except for the closing of doors and blowing of air conditioning throughout the car. She knew Tao didn't want to move back to Florida, but Tao's family was going through a tough time, and she hoed he would eventually understand that.

"Have a good day at school, I love you," Tao's mother chirped. He smiled back and nodded as if to say I love you, too.

Ky browsed through his closet, looking for something to wear, something that was so casual, nobody would notice him. Something that would blend in so well, a chameleon couldn't do better than him at camouflage. Something that was so normal, nobody wou-

"KY! YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE FOR SCHOOL! HURRY UP!" his mother blasted through the house. He pulled out a pair of skinny jeans, a cyan blue (his favorite color) T-Shirt and his favorite tennis shoes, and bolted down the stairs to grab an apple, and head out the door. He lugged his backpack on his left shoulder and walked to the car. His mom turned the ignition and the car started down the street. Ky glanced out of the window, and watched the trees blow in the wind, and the squirrels race down the street, climb up trees and enjoy their well-earned acorn snack. Ky knew it would be a long first day at school, but it's not like he had any control over it, he just had to hope and pray he wouldn't be the only outcast this year. Not the only outcast, he thought. Yeah, this year will be the year I'm not alone. I'm not alone. The thought echoed through his brain as he walked to the school doors.
