A girl limped down a narrow hallway. It was lit dimly by flickering torches that lined the stone brick wall. It was silent, except for the small sound of three sets of footsteps and the chains that bound the girl.
The girl looked completely destroyed. Her eyes were bloodshot and her leg looked broken. Her hair had been pulled and mangled. There was blood falling down from her forehead, but she didn't seem to care.
Her feet were bare and bloodied. The cuts and bruised on her body made the girl look like a walking corpse. The chains that bound her wrapped tightly around her wrists and ankles.
As they walked further down the hall, through more doors and more guards, everything seemed dark. And there was a faint smell to the air that sent chills down any grown man's spine. It was the smell of death.
Yes, people could smell the death here. In this underground hell, death was everywhere. It was the place where the most dangerous of criminals are sent to.
The girl continued to limp. Every so often, the tunnel would shake violently. Although no one could hear it specifically, everyone in the building knew those were the civilians of Trabachi dying. There were no sounds, but everyone in the room could feel the screaming that was going on as people died.
The girl gulped. Her voice was hoarse and dry. "You can't beat him,"
The man next to her slammed his club into the back of her head.
"Shut the hell up prisoner."
The other guard chimed in. "You disgusting piece of trash. Who do you think you are? It is over-powered people like you that are the reason enemies come here in the first place!"
"I didn't--"
The guard hit her again.
"You can't win. I can help you. Please."
"Shut up Godkid. We aren't going to blindly follow you anymore. No one should have the kind of ability you have."
They continued walking in silence until they reached a jail cell. One guard opened it while the other held tightly onto Maya's arm.
"Maya Sky," the man said as he opened the cell, "I hope you rot in hell with your friend."
Just as they were about to throw her in, a knife appeared. The knife sunk deep into Maya's stomach. The guard holding the knife grinned and kicked her into the cell. They both laughed and walked away after locking the door.
Barely able to breathe, Maya tried a self-evaluation. The top of her head was cut open, her leg was certainly broken, and now her stomach.
Maya then noticed that she was not alone. There in the corner was a body. She recognized the green cloak and the light brown hair that was scattered on the wall. Maya limped over.
Cerce's eyes were open, staring blankly out. Maya checked her pulse, and could barely feel it, but Cerce was definitely still breathing, but just barely. Cerce lay crumpled and unmoving. Maya tried to shake her.
"Cerce?" she barely croaked. "Hey, Cerce."
Cerce did not move at all. Instead, Maya saw something that made her gasp. Cerce lay on her side with her arms sticking out in a pool of blood.
Cerce's entire left hand was missing. The stub from where it was cut looked yellow and was oozing something gross. It was definitely infected, since there was no way that could have been treated properly.
Maya collapsed to her knees. How had everything gone so horribly wrong for them? Everything was gone.
Outside, Maya could hear more explosions, this time closer to the jail. Daniel and Riley hadn't been seen in over two weeks, and they were probably dead. Cerce was probably never going to be the same again and Luke was...
Maya felt a tear as she remembered the fate of her brother. But she had cried too much lately, and ended up sort of dry heaving as her body wanted to cry but couldn't.
Luke was gone.
And Maya was all alone.
