We spent a hour setting up the camp, My gaze kept drifting to Max as he carried a crate of food. I sighed and shook my head, going back to setting up one of the tents, a large cloth hanging over a fallen tree was basically all it was but damn it it was hard to get the cloth to stay on!

I got up and looked around, finding large leafs and vines hanging off one of the older trees, i hummed and carefully began to climb the trunk of the tree. I gasped when my foot slipped before i quickly caught myself on a branch above me. Pulling myself up with a groan I sat on the branch, staring at the vines. I carefully reached out for a few, tying them into knots and twisting them in my hands until a Hammock  had begun to form. I tore off some of the large leafs, laying them over the exposed areas before I tied the ends to the branches. I slid into the hammock and looked around. It was the perfect spot for camp, a lake wasn't more than a few yards away, its crystal blue surface reflecting the last rays of the suns light.

"Yo Jack, See anything neat from up there?" I heard Marcus call from below me, i looked over the edge, sure enough he was standing underneath me. I sighed and looked around again, spotting a small group of deer nearby. I Rolled my eyes and called off the edge.

"A small herd of deer nearby," I shouted. Marcus nodded and dashed back to the others, I just rolled over and stared at the lake, watching as river sprites danced under the surface. One spotted me and waved, i just shook my head and rolled over again, closing my eyes tightly before a loud shout woke me up.

"Get your ass up Jack, we're going to hunt those deer, maybe score a stag or somethin'" a loud voice called up. with a groan i jumped off my hammock, landing squarely on my feet in-front of the person who shouted,Max, i gasped and looked up at him. Max raised a brow before handing me a hunting rifle.

"Les go," he sighed as we began to walk in the general direction of the deer. The entire time we walked I struggled to keep up with his long stride. curse this short body im stuck with!

"So.... why were you turned in as a sacrifice..?" i asked softly, i saw Max tense but he then sighed, turning to me with a serious expression, only now did i notice the paleness in his left eye, his silver hair falling across the other. i began to wonder how he was looking at me

"Im blind in one eye, and they wanted to keep scientists off their case,  what about you??" He asked softly as we stopped walking, this guy hates fae... how will i explain im the same species that sacrificed him?! I DONT!

"my family lived in the woods, they came, burned down everything and took me... parents died.." I muttered in mock sadness, honestly i was a orphan since birth, i cant just say that randomly...

"Man.. that has to suck.." He mumbled before we walked back towards the deer, in utter silence.

the wind blowing past us as we approached the deer, i readied the rifle before max shook his head, pushing down my rifle as he drew back the bow that was slung over his shoulder. He pushed his hair out of the way, allowing me to see the crystal blue eye that hid underneath. I nearly gasped, but held my tongue. his eye narrowed as he focused on one of the elder deer, i watched closely as he released the arrow, it zooming past my head as it hit the deer in the chest. i gasped out loud as the deer cried out in pain before tumbling over. We dashed over to the body, Max leaning over it, mumbling a few words before pulling out the arrow.

"Where did you learn THAT?!" i asked as max stood up, lifting part of the deer. He shrugged.

"Before being sacrificed, the elves taught me alot... how to hunt and survive in the forest." He mumbled before motioning to the deer.

"Help me with this..." He growled before I ran over, slinging part o the deer over my shoulder, mindful of my injured arm. We carefully made our way back to the camp. Marcy ran over to us with a squeal

"Oh my gods! how did you manage that?!" She cheered as we came into view. Max sighed and nodded over to the fire, i nodded as we made our way over to it. he dropped the deer and went off to god knows where. i sighed and dropped my half of it.

"Dont praise me, Max is the one who killed it.." I grumbled before climbing into my hammock again, earning strange looks from the others. truth be told i never liked being around people, the most i used to do was go into town for clothes and a hair cut... speaking of hair cuts... my hair was growing out, the long silver locks were getting in my way..

"Oi, tommorow, since the people at the Base know what we look like, we should change our appearance... make it more difficult to find us.?" I called down, i heard a bit of mumbling before someone threw a rock up into my hammock

"Yeah we probably should, Oi Max what do you think??" They called, I heard Max's Usual Growl from where i was, signalling he didnt give a fuck.

"Ok that settles it"
