When Jack's phone rang for the fourth time in twenty minutes he knew something was up. He'd been recording- it was some game about a murderous penguin, he didn't know. Jack had been recording almost nonstop, shoving all of his energy into it. His best friend who he'd occasionally kiss and goof off with at every available occasion who happens to be in love with him? No, he wasn't focusing on that! Or at least, he was trying not to focus on that. He'd only focus on recording. He sent somewhere around six videos to his editor today. He hoped the poor guy wasn't overwhelmed.
At the fifth ring Jack sighed, pausing his software. He didn't hate being interrupted, but he sure didn't like it. "Hello?"
"Jack, it's Felix."
"Oh fuck off," Jack said grumpily. The nerve of this guy right now. "You say one thing about Mark and I'm gonna cut ya."
"It's not about Mark," Felix lied. He was standing in Grand Park, not twenty steps away from Mark and Ken. "Definitely not about Mark."
"What is it, then?" Jack said. "Get it out, I'm a little busy."
"I wanted to know if you wanted to, uh," Felix started. "Oh! I know! I wanted to know if you wanted to go Pokemoning with me in Grand Park. Yeah."
"Um," Jack said, looking at his computer. His fans did have a particular thing for the Pokemon Go videos, even if the enjoyment of the game was wearing thin on his part. And he might need to go outside... the obsessive cleaning and recording was getting kind of insane. "Yeah, sure. Why not? I need to get out."
"I'm here now, so. You know. Whenever you're ready and shit."
"Why are you already there?" Jack said. It seemed odd that Felix only just proposed the idea, but already took the leap. Like, what if Jack had said no? Felix would be stuck in the park alone?
"Uh... Barbecue," Felix lied, looking nervously over to Ken and Mark, who were preoccupied playing the game already.
"Right..." Jack said. It was hard not to be suspicious. "Just promise me you won't do what you did last time. Let stuff work itself out on its own. I don't need your intervention."
"Uh-huh. Gotcha." A voice called Felix's name in the background, shouting something about a pokestop.
"Felix, who else is there?" No response. "Felix?"
"Bye!" Felix called, hanging up abruptly. Jack glanced down at his phone with a raised eyebrow.
Felix switched off his phone, turning around to smile at Mark. "Sorry, what did you say?"
"I put a lure on it, so we can just chill out here," Mark said. "Who were you talking to, anyways?"
"My... mom. Yeah, my mom."
"You asked your mom to come play Pokemon with us?" Mark said. "Doesn't she live in-"
"Oh you mean then? I thought you meant earlier haha," Felix said nervously. "No one important, couldn't come anyways, no big deal."
"Oooookay," Mark said. "That doesn't sound fake at all."
"Nope," Felix said. "Not fake." Ken walked over to them, a grin on his face.
"Hey guys! You'll never guess what I just caught."
Jack hopped a shower before he left, sliding on his glasses with a Grumps tee shirt and a pair of shorts. He knew what Felix was doing seemed a little odd, but there was a chance this was all a coincidence. So he left his apartment with his phone and a portable charger in hand, hoping what Felix had said wasn't as concerning as he'd made it out to be.
