Dean's POV
Chapter 8
I'd been called to the border again. Apparently one of the guards i'd sent out to cover the area said he smelt a rogue. I wasn't happy about this, it didn't feel right knowing Sky was in school and i wasn't.
I walked close to the border and sniffed the air, i couldn't catch anything that smelt off. I considered shifting but my sense of smell was just as good now as when i was a wolf. I looked around for a few more minutes but still didn't get anything. I was about to go find Rink, who'd i'd told to go search a few metres East when i caught the same odd scent i'd found the other day. I followed the smell slowly and realised it was running along the perimeter of my land. I knew i should follow it to see where it stopped but school would be out soon and i really wasn’t keen on the idea of her walking home by herself.
'Rink'. I called through the mind link the pack shared. I only made sure he could hear it though, i didn't want to rest of the pack to be able to listen in. See, we could all talk to each other through our mind link but we could also only talk to certain people if we wanted. Though as i was Alpha, i could listen in on any of these private conversations but most of the time decided not to. People deserved their privacy.
'Yes?' Was his swift reply.
'I need you to follow Sky home. If there's a rogue around, she shouldn't be walking alone. Especially when we don't know how tame the rogue is.'
'Okay, i'm on it'
'Keep her safe Rink. I'm trusting you with everything here.'.
'You know i will.'
I nodded, even though he couldn't see it and cut the mind link. I knew he'd take care of her.
I continued on the trail of the rogue but never once did it actually cross into my land. It just skirted around the edge. I had no idea what it was up to but i planned to find out. A while later Rinks voice floated into my head;
'She knew i was following her'. I think i spooked her' He sounded worried.
'What happened!?'
'Right before she walked into her building she looked toward the woods where i was hiding and said "Don't ever follow me again".
'She knew it was you?'
'No, i don't think so.'
'Oh that's just brilliant. Now she probably thinks she's being stalked.' I huffed out in frustration.
'Just tell her tomorrow that it was me.'
'She'll think I’m a total psycho now, sending people to follow her.'
'Probably'.
''So glad you were here to reassure me.'
'Was that sarcasm i just detected?'.
'Certainly not'.
I was about to go back home when i decided to make a stop first.
A few minutes later i arrived at the woods, near the back of Sky's flat. I wasn't sure which window was hers, it might not have even been on this side of the building. I was debating what to do next when i heard someone come up beside me.
I grinned broadly.
'How'd you know i was here?'
'Just a hunch.' Sky replied.
I turned to look at her. She was looking up into the sky, smiling slightly.
'So was it you that followed me earlier? Or do i have a stalker?' She asked and swivelled her eyes to meet mine.
I had i feeling the expression on my face right now looked rather sheepish.
'Not me per say...'
'And what do you mean by that O' Mystic one?'
I sighed and resigned myself to the fact that i had to tell her.
'It was Rink.'
'Is that your guy friend?'
Yeah. My Beta as well actually,'
'And why was he following me?'
'I told him to.'
She frowned at me. 'Why did you tell him to follow me?'
I gestured for her to sit down. She did, leaning back against a tree and i followed, leaing against one opposite her.
'There's a rogue sniffing around the edge of my land. I didn't think it would be a good idea for you to walk home by yourself.'
She still didn't look too happy. 'Why didn't he just...you know, walk with me and not stalk me.'
I snorted. 'I didn't think you'd like that too much, it would have looked too suspicious anyway.'
She rolled her eyes at me. 'Next time tell him to walk next to me, it would be less creepy.'
'I'll do that.'
'Good. Now anyway, i think we should talk.'
'About what?' I was curious to say the least.
'What are we gonna do?' She questioned.
I sat there, trying to figure out what she meant. 'Uh...you've lost me.'
She huffed. 'About you know....us.'
'Oh, okay. I still don't know what you mean though.'
'What do you wanna do now? Just, like, be friends or what?'
Well what i'd really like is for you to be mine until the day i die and beyond. I think i might scare her if i said that though. So instead i stretched my hand forward in the gesture for a handshake.
She looked at me like i'd gone coo coo but slid her small hand into mine. Her skin seemed a lot softer compared to mine, like silk. It was also a lot smaller than mine, it looked frail but i could feel the strength behind it. I shook her hand twice before reluctantly letting her it go.
'My name is Dean, i am Alpha of the Winter Haven pack and you good lady, are my lovely, lovely mate. Would you care to be friends until you realise how unconditionally in love with me you are?'
She narrowed her eyes at me. 'Best Friends?'
'Oh the very best of best friends. Although you may have an angry Rink on your hands.'
She laughed. 'Okay then, best buddy.'
