Chelsea Hemmings. Chelsea Clifford. Chelsea Hood. Chelsea Irwin......Chelsea Citler. Dang it, that was still my name. I sat at my desk, staring out at the window, when I glanced over at the clock. 12:00 am. Happy birthday Chels. I reached into my drawer and pulled out a rectangular present, wrapped in polka dot wrapping paper. My best friend gave me my present today at school and I had been hiding it until this moment. I began to tear at the paper, which revealed a beautiful silver frame. In that frame, was a picture of my friend Alex and I. I loved it! This, I knew, would be the only present I would be getting for my birthday, and I cherished it.
Then out of no where, my door flung open. My eyes met my drunken mother standing in the door way. She stomped towards me and peered at my newly opened present. "YOU DON'T DESERVE ANYTHING FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY," my mother screamed at me. Hey at least she remembered. And with that, she grabs my frame and throws it to the floor, resulting in it shattering. I stare at the ground, realizing what she did.
"Why did you do that!!!???" I yelled
"Because you're worthless!" She then grabbed a fistful of my hair and threw me to the ground along with my shattered frame.
"GET OUT!" I shrieked, and she exited, with the door slamming shut behind her. Fourteen years today, I have been putting up with that sad excuse for a mother.
After cleaning up the mess my mother had made, I slipped the picture of Alex and I in my desk drawer, right on top of the adoption papers I kept in there. Hey, a girl can hope. I threw on my pajamas and grabbed my phone and earphones as I crawled underneath my covers. I then played, Broken Home, by 5sos, my favorite band, and fell asleep to the tune.
