We are in a wooded area, standing by a creek about 5 miles away from town. I'm staring at a goddess. Her curly hair shifting in the breeze, golden eyes sparkling in the moonlight. She's telling me she loves me. I'm not gonna waste one more second wondering how I got so lucky. I reach for her, she steps away, the heel of her foot gracing the water. She shakes her head. I understand. She doesn't want an answer here, where earth, air, and water meet. Where she feels safe and in perfect harmony. This is her domain, one that I have been graced with seeing. I lower my hand, choosing, instead, to watch her. She is lovely. Long legs, tan skin and eyes that contain all of the dimensions. If she is heaven, then I will convert. She moves through the trees, taking the time to run her hand across them as she goes and I can almost hear them sigh when her hand flows off their hard trunks. Hanging from a branch, she slowly drops herself into the water where she floats, staring at the Moon; her Mother, her home, her love. The contrast of the silver water against her golden body is breathtaking and I can't help but glance at the moon and send a silent prayer of thanks for this perfect being. I dip my fingers in the cool water, the ripples from her breathing knocking against my knuckles gently. She is still young, but soon she will be fully grown. I saw it in her eyes; the fire. She will not be easy to handle. No one will control her; she will go where she pleases, but I am willing to stand beside her and handle all she wishes to throw at me. She is a blessing, pure and innocent, floating in the water, praising Mother Earth with her song. She is a curse, fiery and lustful, stalking through the trees, knowing that no one can deny her. She is humble, heart large and full of love, singing to the creatures and standing when the weak cannot. She is selfish, hoarding the things she loves, afraid to give up anything she owns. She is hurt, tears mixing with the water she lies within. She is strong, standing tall, her head held high. She is both Yin and Yang. The combination of all things good and bad. But when she stands from the water, looking at me with those bright eyes, I realize why. The small stars and galaxies spinning slowly through molten gold; the constellations peppering her skin. She was the universe. And I loved it all.
