Rüya~
I’m sitting in my hospital bed waiting for my test results. Mum is sitting in a chair across the room reading. I’m making dream catchers. Ever since I was a little girl, I loved to dream. I would write stories about dreaming and draw people dreaming. Then one day I asked my mum, “Mum, if your name means waterlily, what does my name mean?” She replied, “Rüya means dream in Turkish,” then it all connected in my head as to why I loved to dream so much.
I snapped back to reality just as Doctor Heart walked in. I always thought it was funny, that Doctor Heart was a cancer doctor, not a heart doctor,” Rüya” Doctor Heart called,
“Yes?” I answered nervously,
“There is some good news, and some not so good news,”
“Okay,” I said cautiously,
“The good news is that the cancer in your right arm is neither growing nor shrinking,”, “That is good news,” I replied and looked at my mum excitedly, and she smiled widely back, “But the not so good news is that the cancer in your right arm has spread since last time,” ,”And us doctors have worked out that you only have five to ten months to live,” Doctor Heart said looking down, “Oh,” I sighed sadly. Doctor Heart turned, walked out the room and left me and my mum alone, “How to you feel Rüya?” my mum asked as she walked over to me and sat on my bed, “I’m okay” I replied, “Just a little shocked that I only have five to ten months to live”
”Well” my mum started, “When you were seven, the doctors said you only had a year to live, and your still alive, so what they say is not always entirely accurate,”
“Oh, okay then,” I replied, “Why don’t you get some rest,” my mum told me, “I’m just going to get a cup of coffee, I’ll be back soon” ,”Okay… Mum?” I asked,
“Yes my little dreamer,” she replied,
“How much longer do I have to stay in the hospital for?”
“Well, since your arm pains brought you into the hospital in the first place, I’d say about two to three weeks, but I’ll ask Doctor Heart,” she replied, “Thank you mum,” Mum hugged me then she left.
