I was standing near the door of my apartment looking at myself in the mirror feeling nervous...
Obviously, if you knew me, you'd know I had changed my outfit like 10 times, because who the heck knew what to wear on a dinner date with a Cowboy?
My usual oversize outfits didn't seem to set the right tone for a first date although I did have one of my favourite extra-long jackets ready to go for when it cooled down. Here's hoping it never did around that tall glass of water though! "Head out of the gutter Mitch." I said to myself with a sigh. "What am I going to wear?" I thought once more as I looked in the mirror yet again.
The standard black skinny jeans I always wore when going out didn't really seem to suit, but then neither did the oversize wide leg baggy pants that I needed a belt to keep on. My closet was full of white and black and you know what? In that moment I was sick of it.
I'd just stripped off my pants again when the doorbell went.
I shrieked and fell over onto the bed as my foot caught in the cuffs of my pants and I ended up falling on the bed. "Just a second!" I yelled giggling as I kicked them off my foot and hurried to open the door.
Scott stood there holding a purple Gerbera Daisy in his hand and I just flashed him the biggest smile, taking in his casual but cute outfit.
"Sorry!" I said with a grin. "I'm having trouble with my ensemble."
Scott's eyes had widened at my appearance and then his big smile grew wider as I took the Daisy from him. "Don't dress up just for me." He said with a smirk.
"Cheeky!" I said and hurried back into the bedroom. "Make yourself at home, I'll just be a sec."
Exactly 5 minutes later I rushed back out of the bedroom wearing my current favourite pair of high waisted blue jeans, an asymmetrical long sleeve T in red and my favourite boots. I was carrying my jacket and I flashed Scott a smile from my freshly glossed lips as his eyes slowly travelled from my head to my feet and stopped back at my eyes again.
"Wow!" He said and smiled even bigger if that was possible.
"Points for you." I said and pulled out a vase for my flower. I trimmed the end and set it in the white column before placing it on the table. Scott's smile grew wider and he blushed when I walked over and placed a quick kiss on his cheek.
Oh he was so adorable.
"OK Texas. Where are we going?" I asked teasingly.
"So you said you like cheese." He said hesitantly.
"Baby, let me tell you about me and cheese." I said with the widest smile ever.
His face did this scrunchy smile thing that totally melted my insides.
Damn, if I wasn't half in love with the big lug already that would have been the last nail in my coffin. All I could do was stand there with a puzzled expression on my face for a moment before shaking my head in an effort to get rid of the lust created fog swimming around my head.
Talk about your rose coloured glasses.
A faint blush had risen up his throat as I stared at him and it was ludicrous how cute it made Scott appear.
"Oh you are just the cutest little bug." I said my long lost drawl making an appearance for the first time in years.
Scott's eyes widened for a moment and then a huge grin crossed his face as he heard the unmistakable sound of Texas in my voice.
"Oh, I really want to kiss you right now." He admitted with a hungry smile, his eyes caressing my lips.
That almost made me break my number one rule. But... "Good things come to those who wait, Scotty." I said with a flirty smile and grabbed my phone and keys.
Scott followed me out the door and I heard him say under his breath, "Good things come in small packages."
I glanced up at his face, letting him know I'd caught that little snippet, and I caught the anticipatory gleam in his eyes. It made everything tighten up in my stomach... gave me that tingle in my own loins that let me know we were both thinking about the same things.
The only thing that was going through my mind was that we'd better have some things in common and I'd better want another date. Because I was definitely not about to break my second rule. Not even for this Cowboy.
"Boy, you are seriously making me reconsider my rules." I muttered with a wry smile as he opened the door of his truck and waited for me to hop in before he closed it after me.
Scott's intrigued expression as he sat in the seat next to me made me giggle.
"Oh, you need to get a decent bottle of wine into me before I spill the beans on that little piece of information!" I exclaimed and settled into the bucket seat as he started the engine.
"Not a problem!" He said with a grin and we headed for the restaurant.
I couldn't wait to get to know him better.
