Author's Note: Hey guys, I am currently recovering from surgery and decided to update this story. I am glad for the comments and followers, your support means so much to me! This chapter is dedicated to someone that we have lost and inspired me. Only a few days ago, we lost a beautiful young singer by the name of Christina Grimme at the age of 22 to an act of senseless violence. She had a magnificent talent and always spread the lesson of sharing your gift to the world because you never know when you're time is up. We must take her tragic death as a lesson to never give up own our gift. We need to embrace it, because we only have so long. So, this chapter is dedicated to Christina Grimme and the impact she had on me as a writer. One of her covers with Sam Tsui is above and I would be so happy if you checked it out. Keep the legacy of her alive and her talent will live on forever.

The melodious trickle of rain against the crystal glass of the windowpane was enough to jolt her out of her sleep; Sonya Blade has always been a light sleeper from the time she was fresh out of diapers. She inherited that trait from her father, her mother always asserted with a shake of her head. Major Herman Blade was a no-nonsense, tough as nails (yet secretly kindred) soldier of the United States Special Forces... who had an obvious soft spot for his little blonde daughter. Sonya was a total daddy's girl when she was growing up; the blonde unquestionably idolized her father and everything he did made him seem like a superhero to her. In her eyes, he couldn't do any wrong.

Hell, Sonya even deliberated even joining Special Forces to honor her father because that's how much she venerated him. That is, until she was 16 years old. Her father had just been deployed on a standard reconnaissance mission, dealing with some weapons trafficking from Indonesia to the United States. Herman had gone on hundreds just like it beforehand; and he always came out unscathed. However, that time Fate had something different in store...

There had been an explosive in the building where they had traced the weapon dealers back to, and they had revealed the main stash of weapons and incriminating evidence of the high ranking members. At this point is when the bomb triggered. Herman had been caught off guard in the explosion and was thrown back. When he woke up, he was in a military hospital back in the States with his family fretfully waiting for him. He miraculously survived the explosion, but with a grave cost: he lost both of his legs from the kneecap down. Sonya watched her father struggle significantly without his limbs at first, moving around everywhere in a wheelchair. He may have lost his legs, but Herman Blade was blessed that he never lost his kindred spirit. When he realized that his only daughter still wanted to go into the military to impress him, he told a teenage Sonya that she didn't need to think about impressing him; rather living her dreams and passions.

Sonya had found herself extremely encouraged by her father's words and swore to herself that she would follow wherever her passions took her. Sonya had always been a fantastic writer from the time she was a young girl; telling stories was her favorite pastime. When her father was still in active duty, the blonde teen had convinced herself over and over that in order to honor her father fully, she would be forced to give up on her love of reading and writing for good. Where she wanted to go, those would only serve as distractions. With her father's wheelchair-bound return, Sonya dared to dust off the passion she had tucked away in the bottom of her soul like a box in a large attic. It was what Sonya found solace in during the first few months of her father's recovery, and slowly yet surely, the blonde teen rediscovered her love for literature. She felt born again! The years passed and she moved to Los Angeles, California after attending college and receiving a double major of English and History. She wanted to spread the love of literature to more people, show them the power of their words and how they can change the world with a few of them. She eventually found herself being employed for Westmore Prep: a private school for the children of the rich and wealthy. Sure, dealing with spoiled trust fund babies wasn't something that Sonya was crazy about, but the pay was amazing and not all of the students she had were total asshole because of how many zeros their daddy has in his bank account. Plus, this is where she met Jax, her best friend and she didn't want to leave him alone with some of the jerk faculty.
