"So Alex," He says, kicking a pebble across the sidewalk. "What brings you out into the world at," He stopped to look at his watch. "five thirty six in the morning?"

"Well, initially, I had just left my apartment to drink in peace. But I started walking, got too tipsy to continue walking. Then I got up, went to the bridge, and feel asleep. Until you rudely awoke me." I said, jokingly pushing him. "What about you?"

"Can't stand being at home," He said, sighing. "All night, I could hear my parents fighting. My house is a nightmare."

"Do your parents live in the city?" I ask, trying to avoid the part about them fighting.

"My father is the CEO of a company here, and we live just outside the city. Heard the shouting, took a pair of keys, and drove here."

"I'm sorry," I said, rubbing his shoulder. Since we only met like and hour ago, I wasn't going to hug him. "I feel bad, my sister always hates it when I walk around at this time at night and she's always worried sick about me. But I can't help it."

"How come?" Harry asked, confused, with his eyebrows furrowed as we sat on a bench at a bus stop.

"To be completely honest, I have no idea. It's just," I couldn't quite put it in words. "Something. Something about the air in New York City makes sleeping so useless."

"Useless, huh," He says quietly enough that I could hear him, too.

After sitting through a few minutes of silence, I decided I should get back home before Arielle wakes up screaming because of my absence. "I should really start heading home."

"Me too." We stood up, and before I went and walked away, Harry stuck out his hand for me to shake. "See you around, Alex."

"You too, Harry," I smiled friendly, and we both went our separate ways.

"Alex I swear to god if you leave in the middle of the night again, you're going go end up on house arrest!" Arielle yells as she pours milk in her cup of coffee.

"It's obviously safe enough out there because I'm still alive," I say, shooting her a sarcastic smile. I grabbed a mug from the cabinet and filled it with dark roast coffee.

"And thank God that you're still alive. You never know, one night someone who's drunk off their asses might be driving and guess who is outside in the middle of the street walking?" She says, picking up her mug and taking it to the balcony.

Rolling my eyes, I grabbed my mug and walked back into my room.

Plopping onto my unmade bed, I grabbed my phone and texted Nicole.

Alex : are you doing anything tonight? i have no plans and arielle is up my ass about my night walks.

A moment after I set down my phone, I received a text.

Nicole : going to a party, wanna come with? and i kinda agree with arielle..

Alex : yes i'll come and wtf

Nicole : it's three in the morning and youre walking around new york city. think alex.

I tossed my phone to the side. Sipping on my coffee, I turned on my television, eventually watching the food channel. As I continued watching, I noticed my stomach growling abnormally loudly.

After finishing my cup of coffee, I walked back into the kitchen. "Arielle, do you want to go get some lunch?" I yell out to her on the balcony.

"Yeah, lemme finish my coffee and I'll be ready." I nodded, and went back into my room to change my clothes. I quickly threw on jeans and a grey shirt. I tossed my hair up into a ponytail and patiently waited for Arielle to finish. I scrolled through feeds and timelines for a while until I heard Arielle calling from the kitchen.

"Alex, are you ready?" I could hear her yell as I grabbed my wallet. I responded back as I was rushing to put on my Nike sneakers.

Shutting the door behind us, we took the elevator to the lobby of the building. The café we were going to was only a few minutes away from our apartment building.

Since it was warm outside, we agreed on sitting outside. Both of us ordering some type of lunch entrée, we sat in silence and waited for our food.

"So Arielle, how's school?" I asked casually. It sounds bad, but I usually never really get the chance to talk about casual things with my sister. We kind of just say good morning and good night.

"It's fine." She says quietly, scrolling through her phone. Rolling my eyes, i sit back in my seat. Playing with my fingers to pass time, a familiar voice brought me out of my trance.

"Alex, right?"
