"Jinx, why are you in that cave?" Asked my father, Thanatos, the king of sirens. I come out slowly not saying anything. Father can't know that the cave has human things that I collect from our victims. We are all taught that humans are nothing but food. The only way we can reveal ourselves or talk to them are when we are luring them into a trap to feed on their soul. I am one of the only sirens who can put humans into a trance by singing. I'm also the only one to put other creatures in a trance with my singing. My mother could to, until she was killed by a water dragon. Father grabs my hand, pulling me out of my thoughts, and leads me towards the caves and tunnels that all the sirens live in. I don't pull away while we swim. Father doesn't really shows affection, so any touch from him is good with me. When we get to mine and father's cave, he lets go of my hand and swims into the cave. I stay outside and watch everyone swimming around so happy. A growl shakes everything and everyone flees into whatever cave is closest to them. While everyone was fleeing, a water dragon landed above me and a big rock fell on my tail, pinning me to the ocean floor. Since it hasn't seen me, I try to stay silent so it doesn't know i'm here. I try to push the rock off of my tail, but it only moves a little. A whimper escapes my lips as I try to pull away causing the rock to hurt my tail. The dragon's attention snaps to me and I try to stay as still as possible

Father pops his head out of the cave, looking for me, just in time to see the dragon sniff me. It opens its mouth to bite me, but roars in pain instead. I see father on the monster's back trying to pull his sword out of its back. I take a deep breath, just as the beast gets close to grabbing father, and I start to sing. Only one siren in history has been able to charm a water dragon, and that was only 1 second, but the dragon looks at me. It doesn't look angry or hungry; the look in his eyes is the same look in the victims' eyes that I claim with my singing. Father rips the sword out of the evil thing's back but it doesn't even flinch while it stays in my trace. My father focuses all his power into the sword causing it to get bigger. He swims to the front of the dragon and forces it through the water beast's chest and pierces his heart. The dragon roars in agony and I lose concentration, but the dragon falls, lifeless onto the ocean floor. I try to pull my tail out from beneath the big rock, but whimpers as pain shoots through my tail. Father rushes over, but only after making sure the beast is dead, and tries to lift the rock. Other strong, male sirens rush over and help him take the rock off of me. When it's off, I swim away from the spot a little to test to see if it's broken. Everything works well, so I dash to father and hug him tightly not wanting to let go. I start thinking about how close I was to death, which leads to me to think about how close father was to death. "I'm so proud of you." he says into my long, silky, black hair to comfort me. "You're even stronger than your mother. You, my daughter, are the one in the prophecy"
