The next few weeks went by in a blur; everyone fell back into their normal routines. Mum was always bustling about, cleaning this and yelling about that. Dad was just as odd and curious as ever. Hermione and I grew even closer, making plans to move in together in London for a while.  Though the idea of moving in with my best friend was an amazing one, I spent most of my time not being excited or looking forward to it. I decided to just observe, occasionally letting myself be pulled aside for advice or comfort, mostly from George and Harry.

One night after dinner, everyone decided that it would be nice to get back to playing back yard quidditch. I was so much more excited than anyone else. I let out a squeal and apparated upstairs immediately to grab my quidditch gear. I couldn’t even wait to apparate all the way back outside, so I threw open my window and dropped my broom out. I whipped out my wand quickly and cast a levitation spell then stuck my head out to make sure my broom was just outside the window, waiting for me.

Then, with one last look out the window, I climbed up on the sill and jumped out. Screams and loud gasps sounded from below me as everyone watched me fall for a few seconds. I knew exactly what I was doing and smiled to myself as I landed perfectly on my broom, taking off instantly into the sky.

Ever since I learned that I could fly a broom, I’ve constantly craved the feeling of the wind flowing through my hair and the sound of it as it rushed past my ears. I loved how fast everything went by and how free I was. I wanted it to be like that always. Flying felt like nothing else I’d ever experienced. My heart beat faster, like it did when I finally fell in love and I just wanted to close my eyes and selfishly feel that beauty forever. It never lasts though.

Just as I was breathing in the cool air from the sky that had seemed so far away lately, something whizzed past my ear. I snapped open my eyes and looked around, smiling. George loved making his own bludgers. His didn’t have the incentive to cause pain and trauma, as real ones seemed to have. No, they only wanted to scare you. But I was never scared. Never.

I made my way back toward the ground and landed smoothly next to Harry and Ron, who were mounting their brooms. Harry gave me an odd smile. “That window trick looked a bit dangerous, Gin. I would hate to see you hurt yourself.” I looked at Ron. He just shrugged and took off from the ground, taking our “quaffle” with him.  Our game was about to begin.

The game lasted the entire evening. The sun had sunk behind the horizon long before the game was over. George and Ron were on my team; Harry, Neville and Luna were on the other. We did have a slight advantage, but I wasn't one to complain. The teams were surprisingly evenly matched. Neville was aggressive and Luna was a great seeker.  In the end though, we won by a landslide after I caught the snitch and after Ron fell off his broom and broke his arm. We couldn’t help but laugh as he fell, his expression was priceless. Our laughter stopped though, the instant mum ran out of the house and began putting spells on our brooms so they wouldn’t fly. Everyone began yelling and cursing as we all dropped out of the sky. I had won anyway, so I wasn’t angry.

As my feet touched the ground, Hermione came running out of the Burrow, her hair in that messy bun again. I supposed this was her thinking hair. She ran right up to me and hugged me tightly, yelling, “I did it, Ginny!” over and over again. I shook off her hug and looked at her, puzzling over what she was saying.

“What are you on about, Hermione?” came Ron’s voice from behind her as he walked out of the house with his arm all wrapped up. I suppressed my laugh as mum once again came bustling and yelling out the door after him.
