"Why won't you let me help you?" I asked, leaning against the fence that divided our gardens.
"Why do you want to?" He countered while pulling weeds from the yard.
"I don't know... I just feel guilty sitting here everyday while you labor away." I sighed.
Spencer stood up from his spot on the ground and chuckled at me while wiping his hands on his jeans. "You don't have to be out here Ada. Why don't you just go play with your preppy friends if you're going to whine cause you're not going to help me."
I threw one of my grapes at him while he walked towards me and leaned up against the other side of the fence in front of me. My breath caught and I tried to act as if his nearness didn't affect me.
"Please Spencer? I know you need help with the yard. I feel bad just watching you do work while I just sit here." I stuck out my lip and gave him my best puppy dog face while he just gave me his signature smirk and messed up my hair. I gasped and pushed him away and quickly tried to fix my hair while he just watched me, laughing.
"Fine. If you're going to act like that then I'm just coming over myself." I huffed and began to pull myself over the chain link fence. Spencer immediately stopped laughing and ran over to me, stopping me halfway over the fence.
"No Ada, I'm serious get down form there." He told me harshly, gently trying to push me down and back into my garden.
"Spencer, what's the big dea-" I was abruptly cut off by the sound of an old pick up truck pulling into Spencer's driveway.
He stiffened then looked me with fear in his eyes. "Ada, go."
"But-" I tried.
"No Adaline. Leave." My eyes widened when he used my full name and I quickly nodded before climbing down and running back into my house. I looked back once more before I stepped inside to see him still watching me and his father walking towards him. He mouthed a final "Go" to me before turning around and facing his father. I quickly ran inside and slammed to door behind me.
I could hear him yelling. I could hear Spencer try and calm him down.
Then I heard and slap.

Okay so this is a story I've been thinking about for a long time and I've finally decided to write it down!
This is going to take on some tough subjects that I will try my hardest to show the importance of.
I hope you all enjoy and I will update soon!
Also if anybody has and covers they'd like to message me I'd love to see and share them!
