The girl laid silently in her bed, mind racing about as she begged herself to sleep. But like every night, she had failed. His face came rushing into her mind, his smile, his laugh and generally everything about him.
The two had been happy together, always having an odd relationship compared to the rest of their friends.
They told each other everything and never hesitated to go to one another. Rather quickly they admitted their feelings to another.
She was nervous when doing so, afraid he would like someone else. But he assured her that she was the one he wanted. And for that she was happy.
But a month had passed and he failed to take action, and she lost all hope, her heart only breaking further when he told her he had met a wonderful girl.
But the girl liked the boy too much to leave and remained his best friend, always helping when he hit rocky points with the girl he left her for.
It hurt, but she would rather have that then not have him at all. To avoid the pain, she tried meeting another guy. He was sweet and treated her well, but he was nothing like the guy she still hurt for.
The girl grew ecstatic when he told her that he had plans to end things with his girlfriend, and she knew that it was time to end things with the guy she was seeing as well.
And for once, she saw another opportunity for their happiness together. She allowed them to continue to grow close, smiling at the smallest things and denying when her friends mumbled about how she liked him.
For she was afraid if he knew, he would leave again.
But when he and his ex reconnected, she grew paranoid. She was told he was getting those same feelings back, the same ones that caused her to be alone in the first place, and she was a wreck.
Afraid to miss her chance again, she uttered the words she was terrified to say. But to her utmost relief, he too felt the same.
The two were happy for many months, remaining as close friends until he finally asked the question. Her answer was obvious, and things seemed amazing from then on out.
But one day he vanished. He wouldn't respond to messages and he wouldn't answer the phone. She was completely shut out. And it was painful. But the girl couldn't bear to let him go so quickly, because it took her so long to finally get him.
but with a heavy heart and tear stained cheeks, she understood that most things in life do not end up how you planned, and she was alone once again.
