Eid ul-Fitr is a Muslim holiday celebrated when Ramadan, the month of fasting, finishes. Muslims do not fast on Eid ul-Fitr as it is not allowed. When the new moon is seen after Ramadan.The next day is Eid ul-Fitr. After the Eid Prayer, The muslim greet each other. Eid ul-Fitr lasts three days.They pray five times a day and give alms and food to the poor and the needy. They cherish a belief that Allah has given them health, strenght and opportunities of life to fulfil their obligations of fasting and other good deeds during the month of Ramzan.

Ramadan is a month when they have to finish reading the Qur'an at least once. Eid al-Fitr is a day of celebration. Muslims around the world go to the Mosques early morning and pray. They wear new dresses and visit their relatives and wish them good health and long life. Thus Eid al-Fitr is a festival that shows brotherhood and family reunions.On this day,

Muslims are encouraged to dress in their best clothes and attend a special Eid prayer at their neighborhood mosque. Before the prayer begins, Muslims make an alms payment (the Zakat al Fitr) for the month of Ramadan, in the form of food or its cash equivalent. This food and/or money is then distributed to the poor.

The Muslims fast during the month of Ramzan. At the end of the month, Eid is celebrated with feats. For Muslims, the festival of Id-ul-Fitr is occasion of showing gratitude to God and remembering him.

Among the three Ids, celebrated by Muslims, Id-ul- Fitr is the most important. In India this feast is known as Mithi Id (the feast of embrace). It is celebrated on the first day of the month of Shawwad. It marks the end of one- month long fast of Ramzan. It is therefore, an occasion of rejoicing and festivity.
