*Chapter 1*

I wake up shivering. I seemed to have kicked all the blankets off the bed. Bother.  I sit up, and not until then do I notice the pounding in my head. I don't really remember anything from the night before. Feeling rather nauseous, I force myself into the bathroom. Staring at the girl in the mirror just makes me realize how much I hate myself. As I stand staring, an awful feeling goes through my body; and suddenly i'm leaned over the toilet, emptying my stomach of its contents. I lay on the cold tile floor, eyes closed. I hear rustling in the house, a clatter, and footsteps. I open my eyes, revealing my drunken so called mother.

"Andee what the hell are you doing?"

I turn, staring at her, then close my eyes again.

"Uh, I asked you a question. Why are you just laying there like that?"

"I'm sick.. thats why."

Chuckling, she grabbed my arm and raised me to my feet. "Go make breakfast."

The fridge is basically empty, it has a few cans of beer, half a carton of orange juice, and two eggs.

I set the hot eggs on a plate, and slam it on the table. "Breakfast."

Lighting a cigarette she smirked, and plopped down on a chair, and began to devour the eggs. I just roll my eyes and walk off. I grab a pair of blue jeans, an old braves sweatshirt, slip on some shoes, then climb out my bedroom window. The cold, winter air slaps me in the face before my feet land in the frosty grass. I close my window, and grab my bike. I ride over to the corner diner where my friend Jo works. As I open the door, smells of coffee and pancakes roll over me.

"Andee! Hey!" I see Jo waving at me from the other side of the building.

"Jo!"

She sets a coffee down on a table before walking over. "What brings you here?"

"I wanted to come see you, obviously." I say, smiling.

"Sit down, i'll grab you a cup of coffee." Before I could protest, she was behind the counter pouring a cup.

"Jo, I don't have any money,  I can't take this."

"Look, I don't mind. Want some cakes too?"

I don't say anything, I just look down. I hold my arms around my stomach to stop the growling, but it escapes.

"I'll take that as a yes."

She put the order in before yelling "HEY TONY, I'M ON BREAK, 10 MINS OKAY?"

"So how's life, Dee?"

"Uh, well its good! yeah.. its fine" I reply, as I place my hands on the hot coffee mug to warm them up.

"Andee... you can tell me if anything is going on... Maybe I can hel....."

"Jo, really.. Everything's fine" I say cutting her off, But before she could reply the bell rang.

"HOT CAKES ARE READY."
