The walk to class was lonely but bearable. The bell for lunch had gone off and within seconds the empty halls of Wordbag High were filled with narcissistic, hormonal teenagers. To say I was abhorred would be an understatement so maneuvering through the teens wasn't a problem given my troublesome past.
Don't get me wrong, I have a fair set of friends.... Ok a handful. But I don't need more. They're all I have and I can't afford to loose them, not again.
As I open the door for the history class that's after lunch I'm engulfed in the smell old textbooks and really strong coffee.
Typical Mr. Barns.
He was engrossed in his book of Egyptian mythology when he looked up making his circular glasses slide further down his nose. His gray hair was cut short and the bags under his eyes were as visible as day. He looked tired.
"How can I help you, Mrs. Henriksen?" he sighed annoyingly.
"Oh nothing really I'm just early for class if you don't mind. " I said sheepishly.
" Just don't make any noise. I'd prefer if you made yourself busy like Rick over here. " He moved his head to the left corned of the back of the class where Rick was swiftly writing in a notebook. His red hair covered his face and the sleeves of his leather jacket rested on the back of his chair. Everything about him screamed bad boy.
I approached him hesitantly.
"Don't take another step Mia" he said in such a low voice it almost sounded like a whisper. I stood my ground. The last thing I wanted to do was piss Rick Mills off, given his anger management teacher didn't end up so well.
"What do you want? " He finally looked up. His dark eyes piercing my own. Those eyes I knew so well, or at least I thought I did. I was too far to see what he had been writing but from the looks of it, it seemed like a letter.
" We need to talk. "
I tried looking at him straight in the eyes but it was hard. I had caused him so much pain and suffering. I wouldn't talk to myself either.
He stood up revealing his lean yet muscular body and his tense shoulders that heaved up and down.
He walked past me without a word and slammed the door to the class. Mr. Barns was too absorbed in his book to care.I sighed and sunk down on the nearest seat.
Rick and I had been friends even before I could talk. We played together and told each other practically everything. We were inseparable. But all that changed when I turned 18 and my parents got into a car accident last winter. I shut everyone out, including Rick which made him furious and distant. He wasn't very understanding. My mother's brother Victor took me in and he's been taking care of me ever since. But little does he know about the dangers that go on in my life. That I'm constantly on the lookout, being watched and threatened and wanted. Not by the police but by this criminal organization called the Zeners. And it will remain like that for as long as I can keep it. As my thoughts drift off I look outside through the window at the occupied parking lot. In the distance I spot the goth kids smoking and laughing and a few teenagers making out and some nerds studying for a test they were probably ready for weeks ago. Wordbag High was the definition of diversity.
As I observed them a shadow behind an SUV caught my eye. He was tall with rigid boots he was slowly turning in my direction, he had a scar on the left side of his face...
It couldn't be.
It mustn't be.My face turned pale as he winked at me and hopped into the SUV and drove off as the bell for class rang.
I couldn't even hear it. All that was going through my mind was that they had found me.

AdventureI stormed through the school building as fast as my legs could take me (not very fast since the accident). I glance at the hallway hoping, praying that it would be empty. It was. I was late. Very late Extremely late. I ran towards my locker and...
