Rose's POV:

"You can do this," I told myself, "you're going to do great on your first day, at your new school, in a new town, with a whole bunch of strangers that you don't know and don't know you...yeah... piece of cake."

Ok, so obviously my little pep talk to myself wasn't going so well. I swept my hand through my ginger hair and looked over my appearance one last time and sighed. I wore a white sundress with a yellow, waist length cardigan and white sandals. I had applied a light layer of makeup on and slightly curled my hair. I usually don't do that but today was a new start and I needed to set a good impression.

I sighed again, "Welp, this is as good as it's going to get."

I grabbed my bag from the floor and headed out of my room. My heart racing, wanting to get this day over and done with.

"Hey Sport!" my uncle Paul shouted, "Come on down or I'm going to eat your bagel...again."

"DON'T YOU DARE!" I shouted back picking up speed to get to the kitchen as quick as possible. He is not getting my bagel again.

As I entered the kitchen Uncle Jim looked up from his newspaper, "Well don't you look all fancy shmancy Miss Rose."

"Thank You. It was Aunt Val who picked out the dress."

"Yes it was me who found, but you are the one who is wearing it so it looks even better." My aunt Val spoke entering the kitchen wiping her hands on a dish towel.

"Thanks Aunty Val." I relied, blushing slightly.

"Well sit down and eat your breakfast. Jim will take you to school a little early so you can get a head start on finding your classes."

I let out a shaky breath, "I still can't believe that I'm actually going to a real, public school for the first time. To be honest home schooling didn't set me up for this."

"No it didn't but it is the beginning of the year so everyone else is starting over and it will be your senior year so you will only have to deal with high school for one year then your done," said Jim "but please be careful because school is not always the safest place. Kids can be mean and teachers will not always be there to save you."

"Yeah, I guessed as much. Mother always said that she home schooled my because she didn't want me exposed to the 'horrors' of public school," I giggled creating quotation marks with my fingers when using the word "horrors".

"I'll be fine uncle Jim. I'm a big girl now." I reached across the table, taking his hand and giving it a reassuring squeeze. He smiled at me and I smiled back.

"Ok...just NO BOYS!"

"JIM!" Aunt Val exclaimed giving uncle Jim a good smack with the dish towel cauing me to let out a little giggle.

"On that note it is time to leave," uncle Jim says glancing at his watch and then giving me a mock glare. "Go get your stuff and head out to the car."

I nodded, clearing my place at the table and picking up my bag. I walked towards the front door, but not before stopping at the full length mirror and giving myself a good look once again. I sighed fiddling with the skirt of my dress.

"Your mother would be proud," I felt a pair of hands on my shoulders, "you have her eyes, hair and smile."

I turned to see uncle Jim. He wore a sad smile. "You look so much like her."

I looked down at my feet and began to fiddle with the small glass pendent that hung from my necklace. It was a clear glass sphere that held a small glass rose. My mother and father had gotten it for me on my sixteenth birthday, three month before the accident.

"Hey." I looked up at my uncle, "everything will be alright." He gave me his dazzling Hollywood worthy smile and I gave mine right back at him. He chuckled "that's my Rosy."

After the little talk with my uncle in the front hallway I felt much better about the day. I was glad he thought my parents would be proud of me. I always wanted to keep them happy even though they had passed away.

Hopping in my uncles truck we head off down the road. I lean against the window and stare at the trees that pass by. I notice a strange figure walking on the sidewalk. He has black hair that goes in all different directions, kinda like a rock star hair do. His attire is all black and from what I could see as we drove past he has A LOT of tattoos. His head is hung and he just seems to be moving real slow. I turn my eyes back towards the road. But my mind keeps wandering back to that stranger.

We arrive at the school. "BentleyHigh School" the sign says. I gulp as the truck comes to a slow then stops. I have the sudden urge to tell uncle Jim to turn around and take me back home. But when I face him he gives me a small smile.

"You got this Kiddo. Just keep your head held high and a smile on your face. I'll pick you up after school."

I take a deep breath and put on a smile. I step out of the car and head towards the school's main doors.

"Alright Rose you can do this. Here we go."
