A lone tree sat in a twisted wilderness, a sandy marsh, a dessert and a mountain top. Just below the bark in the centre of the trunk lay a beautiful clock, embedded in the heartwood. I ticked and then ticked like the beating of a hopeful heart. Yet the tree sat alone. A small keyhole in its branch was its only mark on the outside.
