It was snowing on that cold December night as William and Daniel Pierce trudged home across the snowy streets. The air was silent, except for faint shouting in the distance, gradually making it's way closer. William and Daniel stayed silent, not uddering a word about the letter they'd just delivered to another Son of Liberty. Will, a thirteen year old boy payed no attention to the voices in the distance, getting louder and louder with each step they took. Suddenly, Daniel pushed his younger brother into the wall of an old church, obscured by the shadows of night.
"What are yo-," Will started in confusion, just as Daniel's hand clamped down over his mouth.
"Shh!" He hushed roughly, heart beating wildly, hoping that he was hidden from the passing redcoats who'd surely make a scene if they saw him and his younger brother out this late. But it was too late for Daniel.
"You there!" A man in red rushed forward. Hastitly, Daniel moved from his spot before the British man-or the other soldiers in his group- saw William.
"When I tell you to run, run. Run all the way home," he'd whispered before turning around without another glance. Will wanted so badly to follow his brother but he knew it'd only make matters worse.
"Greetings gentlemen," Daniel sarcastically greeted, ignoring the guns that the Redcoats were carrying. Will had always admired his brothers ability to stay strong in these moments, stay brave instead of cowering away like most would.
"What are you doing out here so late?" The man spoke accusingly, his accent thick.
"I don't see that as any of your business sir, so if you don't mind, I'll be on my way now." The Redcoats shared a look, and it was at that moment that Daniel looked back and mouthed a single word. William knew what that meant, he was to run home now.
Slowly, Will crept along the side of the building, trying his hardest not to be seen while his brother distracted the British men.
'Now,' he'd thought before taking off into the snowy streets at the other end of the church. He ran for no more than two whole minutes before a loud "BANG" sliced through the air. A sickening feeling washed over William. He had a feeling that he knew what just happened, and all he could imagine was his brother lying dead in the snow, a coat of blood spilling onto the once white snow. At that moment Will swore to himself that one day he'd get vengeance on the ones who killed his brother.
