I was walking through the fields when I heard it. Three shots. Sometimes that’s all it takes to turn your life upside down. For me I knew that was all it would take. The sound of a gun being fired is not one you forget easy. The first time I heard it I had been shot in the leg, my step-father was not a sane man. I sprinted back to the house, I know that wasn’t the smart thing to do but I wasn’t thinking straight at the time. I sprinted into the living room where my family would most likely be, but no-one was there. I started looking around the house and when I reached my sisters bedroom I nearly threw-up. Her body was in pieces all over the room, some heavy machinery would have been used. I had to keep going though, I had to find my mother; I had to know if she was alright. The odds were against me but I had to find out sooner or later and I’ve never been patient. It didn’t take long to find her, there was more of her left than my sister. The window was broken, I think the first shot might have missed her, but the second one was certainly on target, it had gone straight through her chest. I saw him run; he had a rifle strapped to his back and he was sprinting at what looked 50k’s an hour to me, I wanted to go after him, to avenge my family there and then but sense took me over and I reached for the phone….
