Dan's P.O.V:

I stood up from where I was sat and staggered over to the kitchen. As I grabbed another beer, I felt a hand latch onto my wrist which was pale and contrasted vastly against my skin. I looked up at the person and sighed feeling anger bubble up inside of me. All of that anger vanished as I looked into his bright blue eyes and was replaced with guilt. He spoke first.

"Dan, you promised me that you weren't going to drink a lot tonight. Why do you always lie about everything," I opened my mouth to reply but Phil carried on talking. "I'm gonna say goodbye to David and we'll go home seeing as you ruined the party for me. Stay here"

What had I done to get Phil so angry? He was never like this, always smiling, always the happy one. Before I had time to gather my thoughts, David was coming over to me, closely followed by Phil. I slurred a goodbye and stepped out the front door. Phil grabbed my wrist and started pulling me home. I wasn't going to deny the fact that I did feel a few sparks between us when he touched me, but then I always felt that. Just as I started day dreaming about what it'd be like if Phil actually felt the same way, he was calling my name.

"Dan! Dan! Have you got your house key?"

I felt in my pockets and felt a wave of relief run through my body when I found it.

"It's riiiiiight here!" I announced to Phil.

After about ten minutes of my struggling to get the key into the lock, Phil took it from my hand and opened up the door. As soon as I got into our flat, I crashed down onto my bed. Shortly after, Phil came into my room and placed a glass of water and an ibuprofen tablet on my bedside table. I smiled to myself; no matter how annoyed Phil was with me, he always looked out for me.

“Come here Dan, you can’t sleep in your clothes.”

“What are you gonna do, undress me?” I smirked as Phil turned a bright shade of red.

“I give up trying to help you Dan, you turn everything into a joke.” He turned around and started to walk away but I shot my hand out and snaked my fingers through his. He looked down at our hands and I swear he smiled slightly.

“Phil I was joking, please stay here tonight. It’s cold in my room.” I pulled him onto my bed and snuggled under the duvet.

“Only for tonight.” He sighed and turned away from me so our backs were touching. I searched for his hand and grabbed hold of it tightly. He squeezed my hand in reassurance and kept hold of it. He thought I wanted him to stay there with me because of my fear of the dark. Little did he know I was falling in love with my best friend.

Phil’s P.O.V:

I woke up and tried to stretch, but someone’s arms were wrapped around my body. Suddenly, last night came flooding back to me and before I had time to push Dan away, he tightened his arms and sighed happily.

“Morning Phil, did you sleep well?”

I turned to face him and smiled. “I sure did, but can you please stop hugging me?”

“I’m sorry oh my god, I didn’t realise” He got all flustered as he quickly withdrew his arms and sat up. I couldn’t help but laugh at him. “Thanks for staying in here with me last night Phil, I really appreciate it.”

“It’s my pleasure!” I replied but I realised it sounded a bit too eager. I couldn’t let him know that I loved sleeping in the same bed as him, the way that electricity flows through us when we touch. Dan smiled at me as I got out of his bed and walked toward the door. I turned to face him and saw that he was still smiling.

“Pancakes or cereal?”

“Tough one, but I’m gonna have to go with pancakes!”

We shared a laugh as I continued walking toward our kitchen. There were butterflies coming alive in my stomach as I thought about the way Dan was smiling at me. There was no way he liked me back, right?
