Chapter 16
I gave Cassie the poptart and started walking with Janet.
"So Janet why did you give her another name?" I asked.
"Because I don't want her to know my true identity. Lucifer was right. She is a hag. Who would've known." She said, "Wait so does that mean you're adopted. You're not a spirit or a hag."
I nodded, "Yeah."
"Well that's okay. I'm planning on stealing you for myself anyway."
I looked up at her with a teasing face but hers was serious. "You serious."
She nodded, "I don't want you to die."
We finally made it to the park. Damien and Lucifer were there waiting for us. When Cassie saw Lucifer she ran to him.
"Twavis!!" she exclaimed happily.
Lucifer bent down and picked her up, "Good morning Cassie."
"Twavis?" Janet asked.
"Well he didn't want to give his name away either." I said.
We all sat down on a nearby bench.
"So are you all vampires?" I couldn't help but ask.
"I'm not." Janet said, "I'm a fairy."
"That's cool. What can you do?" I asked.
She pointed at a patch of flowers, "Watch closely." First the flowers started to die. Then they came back to life, more healthier than before. Cassie was so entranced with the flowers that she went and picked them.
"Wow that's awesome." I said.
Janet gleamed, "Thanks."
"Well not to be rude or anything but we have some important matters." Damien said interrupting.
"So much to deal with." I heard Janet sigh.
"Okay business first then crisis after." Lucifer said with determination.
They all looked at me. Which didn't make me feel any better. I have a tendency to put the blame on myself with matters like this. I just looked down before Damien started to talk.
"Aislinn this might be alittle hard to deal with but we need to take Cassie back home."
"What? You can't! She doesn't even know that she's royalty. Let alone her real parents. She'll be terrified." I started to go in a rant.
"You don't understand she's really important to the kingdom."
That shut me up. I totally forgot how important the princesses were right now. I looked up to Damien. I tried my hardest not to show any fear, "Well then atlease take me. She'll be more comfortable and easy to deal with if I'm there."
They all looked at each other, then at me. It was Janet who broke the silence, "Okay."
A wave a relief went through me. I won't have to leave Cassie. I smiled, "Thank you." I looked over to see Cassie coming back with some flowers. She gave them to me. I took them and picked her up, "Cassie do you like your new home?"
She shook her head. Ever since we were adopted Cassie acted weird around Shirley. Now I finally understood why.
"How would you fell about living with someone else?" I asked.
"Ashy come with Cassie?" she asked.
I nodded, "Of course."
"Okay." She smiled.
"Well now that that's settled..." Damien said but stopped. He looked at Lucifer and it seemed like they were having a telepathic conversation. Then Damien sighed and said, "Sorry Janet but this is super private. My brother here doesn't want anyone to know."
"That's cool. I totally respect that." She said, "Come on Cassie. Let's go the swings."
Once she was out of hearing range I asked the most stupidest question when it comes to family. "Since when have you two been related." See what I mean?
They both laughed, "Since our mom gave birth to us. Guess you didn't know that we're twins."
I stared at them mouth gaping open, "What seriously? Wow I'm so slow."
That made the laugh even harder.
"Well atlease I can tell the difference between you two." I smiled. They laugh.
I waited awhile till their laughter died down. Then they looked at me all serious again. I had a really good feeling that it was going to be on what happened last night.
"About yesterday, I'm really sorry about that." Lucifer said.
See now here's the problem, I don't know if he's talking about the kiss or about me being under strict watch so I won't die. So I just sat there awkwardly trying to find the right thing to say. Well with me being blunt it didn't work out to the fullest.
"See now I don't know what you mean. The whole saving my life or the whole..." I couldn't finish it. For some odd reason I couldn't finish the sentence. Was it because his brother was there? Was I embarrassed? I don't know.
"Both." Was all Lucifer said. His eyes were full of sorrow and regret.
That took a low blow on me. To me it feels like he's sorry for saving my life. Like he regretted it. And same with the kiss. Sure I probably won't look at him the same way but hey hormones work that way.
"It's okay. I'm really happy that you saved me. I probably would be in a morgue right now." I smiled.
"Well see I'm not sorry for that. I'm just sorry that you're in danger and needs to be watched." He said.
That's when Damien came in, "Too be honest Aislinn only me or Lucifer will be around. I don't trust anyone else. Even Janet."
"He has trust issues." Lucifer said when he saw my 'Janet is completely trustable' face.
"Hey I thought you said your brother was looking in the Underworld." I said mostly directing the question towards Lucifer.
"No that's my other brother."
"Ohh I get it now." I said. I don't know why but I started to feel thirsty. I opened the backpack Shirley gave me. When I noticed what was inside I cussed.
"What's the matter?" Damien asked alarmed.
I took out the walkie talkie. It was a small one and there was duck tape holding down the button. I stood there mortified by the device. This whole time my foster parents were listening to our conversation.
Lucifer grabbed the walkie talkie and crushed it with his bare hands. I would've been gawking at how strong he was but since I found out he was a vampire I just ignored it. Right now the problem was Shirley and Mark. That is if that's their real name.
