19th January

Amelie hummed softly to herself as she grabbed her blue pack pack from the bag racks outside of her fifth grade classroom, and swung it over her shoulders. A long tuft of blonde hair fell over her dark blue puppy dog eyes. She puckered her lips and blew it away. "Bye, Ami!" Shouted Jack, her best friend, as he walked up the painted red ramp that led away from the fifth grade classrooms, grabbing onto his mothers hand. "Bye, Jack!" Amelie waved back, watching Jack disappear into the parking lot. Shortly after she began her daily trudge back home, even though it was only three streets away, it seemed like a lot of work for the eleven year old.

She walked out of the parking lot, waving goodbye to Mrs. Collins, her fifth grade teacher who was currently on parking lot duty, making sure that nobody got run over. Mrs. Collins smiled sweetly and waved back, and watched her walk up Lewis street, a large hill that was currently busy with Coville Elementary School students walking and riding upon their bikes up the hill. She watched Amelie disappear over the top of the hill. At the time, Mrs. Collins could not have possibly imagined that this would be the last time she would see Amelie. Well, at least until the police found her body buried six feet under the ground.
