The Deal

"Raelyn, get up," Cal's voice jolts me awake. I sit up and look at him questioningly. "The Kaiser Alpha called me this morning, I'm going to their pack with Ryan. I probably won't be back until later, do not cause trouble."

I nod, hoping he'd resolve the problem with the other pack and the warriors could go home. Cal leaves and I get up, shower, and then make breakfast for the warriors and myself. I grab a couple first aid products as an after thought as I head out. Cade had had blood on his shirt the day before.

"Good morning," I smile at the men. I get a groan in response and raise my eyebrow. "It's 8 o'clock, why aren't you awake?"

"We aren't crazy, woman," Thomas snaps at me. I laugh quietly and open the cell door to give them food. I step into the cell and Cade looks at me curiously.

"Did you have an injury Cade?" I ask, pulling out my supplies.

"Yeah, a gash on my stomach," he replies, looking suspicious.

"I could treat it, if you wanted... or I could give you the supplies and one of the others could do it?" I offer. The other men glance at each other.

"You should probably do it," Thomas laughs. I smile at Cade reassuringly and he lifts his shirt.

I gasp at the toned stomach marred by a deep cut across it. "I wish werewolves healed as fast as the books said," Cade jokes, and my eyes snap to his in confusion and surprise. "What? I'm not allowed a sense of humor?"

"You didn't seem to have one earlier," I mumble. I put disinfectant on the wound, and Cade grunts in pain. "I'm sorry!" I squeak, pulling my hand away.

"It's fine Raelyn, you're just trying to help," Cade replies in a deep voice, trying to hide his pain as much as he can.

I grab a needle with a localized anesthetic and inject a bit around the wound and wait a few seconds. I poke the skin, "Can you feel this?" He shakes his head no and I start bringing the skin back together and put butterfly bandages to keep it together. The bandages look strained so I quickly suture the wound instead with medical thread.

"There you go," I say after I bandage it. "I'm not sure how long the stitches stay in, but you should be back in your pack by then, so I'll watch it when I change your bandages. But I think I won't have to worry about it myself."

"Thank you Rae," Cade replies. I nod and bid the men goodbye and head back home.

Once home I decide to tidy up a bit. The house was usually pretty clean as Cal was barely home and I tried to stay relatively clean. I hated cleaning with a passion. I finish cleaning after sweeping the floors. I glance at the clock and decide to start on lunch. Since I have a while before lunch is traditionally served, I decide to go a bit more fancy; making my own condiments for the sandwiches, cutting them in triangles, making a broccoli salad, and making a special treat.

The special treat is one of my packs favorites. I make brownies from scratch and then after placing the batter in a glass pan I swirl some strawberry preserves in. After baking the brownies I cut them and package everything in a basket then head to the dungeons.

"Here comes our beautiful savior!" Oliver exclaims humorously as I walk over to their door. I blush slightly as I unlock the door.

I step in and set the basket down. "Do you mind if I join you for lunch today? Cal is currently at your pack, probably negotiating your release, so I'm all alone," I ask, not wanting to eat alone today.

"Sure thing," Oliver says first as Thomas also replies, "of course."

"Thank you," I smile, sitting on my knees as I unpackage the food and plates. I keep the brownies in the basket for after lunch. We start to eat, and I can tell the men are deep in thought about the information I gave them. The silence grates on my nerves and I finally muster up the courage to ask, "What's your pack like?"
