Kate's POV

I woke up from a nightmare of being choked by my bioligical dad. I didn't even do anything. He was just drunk like he always was when I lived with him. I'm so glad that I live with my mom now. I would literally die if I still lived with him. Sadly, due to my move, I had to move to a new school, but that was Freshman year. I'm a sophomore so I'm kind of used to the school. Who am I kidding? This is like a home that I never had growing up. My best friend, Olivia, was texting me back and forth. I still haven't told her about my past and I don't feel like bringing it up. Thanks to her I actually feel somewhat normal.

I start getting ready for school with my normal routine. Eating breakfast, brushing my hair and putting on my makeup. I then get my outfit together. Since I felt like being casual, I put on black leggings and my shirt that says "Messy Hair, Don't Care". I finally put on my converse and I'm soon out of the door. Since Olivia drives, she picks me up for school.

She is seen in my driveway and I wave to her.

"You look cute today," Olivia states.

"Not as cute as you," I said. She's so pretty, I wish I could just be her.

Olivia's POV

I know that Kate's insecure, but she shouldn't be. She's very beautiful. I just wish that she saw what I saw. Maybe something made her that way... I doubt it. She would tell me if that were true.

Kate's POV

As we're on our way to school, I convince Olivia to stop at Tim Horton's for our favorite coffees. I tell her that it's on me this time since she has to work later and I don't have to work until tomorrow.

She stops in front of Tim Horton's and I get out of the car. Olivia didn't have to even come with me because I knew what she wanted for her order. We get the exact same order, she just prefers her coffee hot, while I prefer mine iced.

"May I take your order?" The cashier questions

"I want two large dark roast coffees, 4 cream, 4 sugar, and 2 shots of espresso. One of them iced and one of them hot." I really hate giving cashiers long orders like that, but the coffee is so good. It was Olivia who got me to try it in the first place when we went to the movies to see Pixels in the summer.

I paid the cashier and waited for the coffees to be done. One thing that I loved about Tim Hortons, is that the employees don't take too long on the coffee. In fact, I remember getting a cappuccino in less than a minute after ordering. I swear Tim Hortons is the best place to go if you're impatient like me.

The coffee is placed by the register and I head out after getting me a straw.

I get in the car and Olivia thanks me. I told her she doesn't have to thank me. After all, she deserves it after she already paid for me previously.

As we arrive at school, we see a new kid park next to us.

"He's cute." Olivia and I say simultaneously. I love when we have moments like that. We then see another guy in the passenger seat who looks exactly like him.

"Great, now there can be one for each of us." I said joking.

Olivia has made me social ever since I met her. Without her, I'd be shy and keep more to myself.

Olivia being her social and outgoing self, starts talking to them. She notices that I'm not talking much and introduces me.

"Why are you so shy?" Ethan asks

I shrug and before I can even say anything, Olivia cuts me off and says, "Maybe she's nervous because she likes you."

Ethan and I chuckle.

"Is that true?" Ethan asks.

"I mean, I don't know. I just met you, but you're really cute." I admit trying to be cool.

"So are you." Ethan says.

I blush and Olivia whispers in Grayson's ear. I don't know what was said, but both me and Ethan figured out that they're just trying to set us up.

"So..." Ethan and I say simultaneously. We chuckle at the fact that we just met and we're already talking at the same time.

To break the awkwardness, Ethan asks, "What kind of coffee are you drinking?"

I tell him the long order that I stated previously.

"Coffee addict I'm guessing?" He states.

"I guess," I chuckle. "Do you want some?"

He takes a sip. "Wow. That's actually good."

My friend, Nathan, sees me and Ethan enter the school and jokingly says, "Kate, who's your boyfriend?"

Before I can say that we're not dating, Ethan puts his arm around me and says "Ethan"

Nathan is seen with his group of friends putting up hearts and acting like he's making out with someone.

"Sorry about him" I say.

"Don't be sorry. That was the most entertaining thing I've seen today besides seeing how hot you are"

I blush more then I state, "I thought I was cute."

Ethan doesn't say anything. He just winks at me.

We are still walking with his arm around me.

As I see a group of guys that tormented me since middle school, I hold his hand and kiss his cheek.

"I thought you were shy." States Ethan

"Not for you" I wink.

"Youre flirty just like me, I like that" Ethan winks again.

"What is this? A winking competition?" I ask. We chuckle.

"It can be, but I'd rather turn this into a makeout competition." Ethan flirtatiously says.

I blush and say, "I've never kissed anyone before."

"You're joking." Ethan appears to be shocked.

"I'm actually not." I state.

"Well that's going to change. You should come over to my house later."

"I mean, why not?" I say
