I woke up, heart racing and sweat beads on my forehead. I glanced around my room, dark but for the twilight that shone through my window. My whole body shivered in the pain the dream had induced. Even so, to make it worse, it was a memory. The events that led to that fateful day came rushing back, paralyzing me, while the gunfire and yelling kept ringing in my ears. I sat still, fearing that the slightest movement may trigger the event to happen again. The feeling passed over and I lay back, willing sleep to come, tossing and turning in my bed.
I woke up the next day to sunlight streaming in through my window, along with smog and the constant wailing of car horns.
Typical Mumbai.
I sat up, swinging my legs over the bed. My bedside clock told me it was 9 in the morning. I ran my fingers through my hair and got up, trudging towards the kitchen. I stood there staring at my coffee machine as it got the coffee grounded.
Unlike the rest of Mumbai, I didn't have a rat race to run. I was my own boss, employer and employee.
Yeah, I'm an entrepreneur.
I run Athena Technologies, a startup that has revolutionary ideas, not just tech. Atleast, that's what the motto says. We managed to get some pretty good projects done, earning our selves a bit of rep in the process, so everything was going fine.
I snuggled into my bean bag chair, with my coffee and newspaper. I read through the usual amount of murder, rape, dirty politics, thugs, harrassment, etc, till my phone rang.
The caller ID showed that it was Scarlett, my PA.
I picked up and said "Good morning, Scarlett", an eye still on the news paper.
"Good morning, sir" she said squeakily, which is how she sounds when she gets excited. " Do you, by any chance, remember Project Ra, which we had to abandon due to lack of resources??"
"yeah" I said, still unimpressed.
" Well, we just got a sponsor for the whole project!! He's willing to pay whatever is needed for the project! He already gave me a current account number for the project. "
I sputtered into my coffee, getting a little of it into my lungs. After i coughed it out, I gasped " Who's crazy enough to support that?"
" It says on the letter that his name is.....Peter" Scarlett said, reading from it.
"Peter what?"
"That's the the thing sir, we don't know his last name. He had to send me his ID proof as per regulations, but it had his last name blurred!!"
"Okay, ask Mr.Peter to meet me at office as soon as possible" I said, finishing up my coffee.
I went and got dressed for office. Just as I grabbed my keys and was going to step out, my phone rang.
I fished it out of my pocket, shouldering my bag in the process, and picked it up, without looking at the caller ID.
" Talk to me, Scarlett" I said, closing the door behind me.
"I am sure Scarlett will talk to you soon enough, Mr. Jayarosh, But I'd rather you give more importance to your wealthy benefactor" said a rich, smooth voice from the other side.
"Mr...... Peter." I said, struggling to remember his name. " I was looking forward to meeting you today."
"Ah, what is the need, Jay? I give you what you need, you give the world what it needs. Where is the necessity for communication?"
" But sir, there are things about this project I want cleared with you before we commence"
"Fine, Jay" he said with a defeated tone. " Is 12 okay by you"
I glanced at my watch. It was 11:45. It should take only about 20 mins from my home to the office, but traffic could lengthen it to an hour.
" Okay sir , I'll be there" I said, hanging up and heading for my bicycle.
What happened to the car sir asked the security guard as I got on to the bike.
"Just decided to go green, Ram" I said. " Call me if anyone comes to meet me, alright?"
" Yes sir " he said, but it was swished away by the wind as I pedalled as fast as I could.
So, How did you like it?? I haven't delved into the actual story in this but it still explains the title a bit. I don't know whether I should go ahead with this, so please, guys, tell me in the comments and votes. Toodles.
